In recent days, in Song Xoai and Hac Dich communes (Phu My town, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province), people are busy harvesting grapefruit, packing it for sale on the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2025. Busy trucks are carrying freshly cut grapefruit to pack and ship to traders. During this year's Tet season, grapefruit has a good harvest and good prices, making many farmers happy.
Mr. Ho Hoang Kha (Phuoc Binh Hamlet, Song Xoai Commune) said that his family has 5 hectares of grapefruit for business during the Tet season. This year, the harvest is good due to favorable weather, along with good care techniques, so Mr. Kha's garden has a fairly high yield, with grade 1 grapefruit accounting for nearly 80% of the total grapefruit harvested (about 100 tons of grapefruit).
"This year, Tet grapefruit prices are good, grade 1 is 35,000 VND/kg, grade 2 is about 25-30 thousand VND/kg. Traders have ordered all my garden and are shipping until the 28th of Tet. After deducting expenses, I expect to earn about 1.5 billion VND in profit," Mr. Kha said excitedly.
Nguyen Trong Trung's family (in Hac Dich commune) also has about 5 hectares of grapefruit that are being harvested for Tet. With a lower yield, Trung expects to harvest about 70 tons of grapefruit, of which only 40% are grade 1 grapefruit.
"This year, grapefruit is in season, prices range from 15,000-35,000 VND/kg. Although costs are 5% higher than last year, we expect to make a profit of about 1 billion VND after harvest," said Mr. Trung.
According to the Song Xoai Green-Skin Grapefruit Cooperative, this year, the green-skin grapefruit crop was good, so the grapefruit output in the whole commune increased sharply by over 20% compared to last year, with about 1,000 tons of Tet grapefruit. Meanwhile, at the Hac Dich Green-Skin Grapefruit Cooperative, the amount of grapefruit for Tet increased by 30% compared to last year.
"This year, the wholesale price for grade 1 grapefruit must be higher than 30,000 VND/kg, while the retail price can be up to 40,000-50,000 VND/kg of grapefruit during Tet," said a representative of the Hac Dich cooperative.
In addition to selling to traders, cooperatives also organize Tet grapefruit consumption points in Vung Tau, Ba Ria and Phu My. High output and good prices for Tet grapefruit make grapefruit farmers happy with high income, to celebrate Tet more fully.
