At this time, many kumquat growers in Hoi An Tay ward (Da Nang city) are busy taking care of trees, pruning branches, spraying medicine, fertilizing to promote tree growth, preventing epidemics to serve the Tet market in time.

After consecutive floods causing great damage, kumquat growers in Hoi An are struggling to enter the Tet crop, both recovering production and facing the risk of epidemics and erratic weather.

Having been attached to the family's kumquat growing profession for many years, Mr. Nguyen Viet Kien (Hoi An Tay ward, Da Nang city) said that this year, his family has invested in growing more than 1,000 large kumquat pots and more than 5,000 mini kumquat pots for the market during Tet.
However, the recent flood estimated the damage to his family's kumquat garden at nearly 50 million VND, most of which was due to trees being submerged in water for many days.

"Every year, my garden is booked by regular customers from Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Hue to the Central Highlands provinces. Currently, half of the kumquat trees in the garden have been deposited by someone. However, this year's cold weather has caused trees to grow slowly, easily causing epidemics, and must be continuously monitored and sprayed with medicine promptly," said Mr. Kien.

According to many kumquat growers in Hoi An Tay ward, the capital spent on the entire Tet kumquat crop is very large, so everyone is worried. Just if the weather is bad or the trees are sick in the final stage, there is a risk of loss of crop, even heavy loss.
Therefore, people must increase care every day, hoping that this year's Tet crop will achieve good results to make up for the difficulties after the floods.

According to the Center for Providing Career Services of Hoi An Tay Ward Police, Da Nang City, the area of kumquat trees in the area is about 65 hectares with nearly 1,000 households, most concentrated in Cam Ha village, Thanh Ha, in addition to Tan An. This is a long-standing traditional profession of the people, however, this year due to extreme weather, the quantity of kumquat has been damaged.

In previous years, kumquat trees were in good harvest, so people expanded the number of trees. However, the recent flood caused many kumquat areas of the people to be affected, some households reported almost losing everything.
The Center is also establishing survey and inspection teams to have specific figures, thereby proposing support for people according to regulations.
