The project to urgently handle the incident of landslides, riverbank collapses and Ban Nguyen embankment, respectively from km84+500 - km85 and km87 - km89+200 of the Thao River (Red River) embankment, in Ban Nguyen commune, Lam Thao district, was approved by the People's Committee of Phu Tho province on March 5, 2024, according to Decision No. 407/QD-UBND.
This is a Group C project with a total investment of 75 billion VND, with the goal of promptly preventing landslides, riverbank collapses and Ban Nguyen embankment works. At the same time, ensuring the safety of the Thao River left embankment, National Highway 2D, neighboring infrastructure works as well as protecting the lives and property of people in the area.
Recently, the left-hand dike of Thao River through Ban Nguyen and Phung Nguyen communes, Lam Thao district, has experienced landslides due to changes in flow and rising floodwaters, causing damage to crops, property and threatening the safety of households outside the dike.
As Lao Dong reported, in November 2023, the riverbank corresponding to Km78+500 - Km79+500 of the Thao River left embankment section through Phung Nguyen commune was deeply eroded, and a sliding arc appeared at the top of the embankment. In particular, the landslide point at Km79+350 - Km79+500 was only a few meters from National Highway 2D.
The landslide directly threatened the property and lives of 7 households in Bong Lang area. Of these, 2 households had their houses severely cracked, forcing local authorities and residents in the area to urgently assist in evacuating people and property to a safe place.
After that, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development conducted a survey and decided to support 20 billion VND from the emergency dike incident handling fund managed by the Ministry for Phu Tho province to handle the landslide incident. By early 2024, the embankment line was completed and handed over for use.
