17 hydropower plants under construction
On May 21, according to the Department of Industry and Trade of Quang Ngai province, the whole province currently has 17 hydropower projects under construction, with a total capacity of 336.9 MW.
At the same time, there are 13 hydropower projects in the preparation for investment and construction phase, with a total capacity of 132.2 MW.
In addition, there are 2 wind power projects being invested in, of which 1 project has been completed, and 1 project is implementing investment policy adjustments.
Ia Ly Kon Tum solar power project, with a capacity of 160 MW, has been granted investment policy decisions and investor approval by the Provincial People's Committee, and is currently requesting to adjust investment policy.
In addition, the province is calling for and promoting investment in many other energy projects, including 25 hydropower projects with a total capacity of 266.2 MW; 11 solar power projects with a total capacity of 600 MW; 6 wind power projects with a total capacity of 522.55 MW; 2 biomass power projects with a total capacity of 38 MW; and 1 Quang Ngai Waste-to-Energy Plant project with a capacity of 15 MW.
These power projects are expected to effectively serve the socio-economic development of the locality, while contributing to ensuring national energy security.
Early investment in power grid infrastructure to relieve capacity
However, currently some transformers and 110 kV power lines, especially in the western area of the province, are operating at high load levels; the power grid infrastructure has not met the requirements for releasing power capacity of power source projects according to Power Plan VIII and the Quang Ngai Provincial Plan that have been approved.
Therefore, Quang Ngai proposed that Vietnam Electricity Group support the province to ensure electricity sources to serve the lives, production and development needs of economic zones and industrial parks in the area.
At the same time, the province proposed that Vietnam Electricity Group direct Central Power Corporation to soon allocate capital to invest in the Dak Glei 110 kV substation project and the connection system, putting them into operation in the period 2027 - 2028 to synchronize with the progress of planned power source projects.
Thereby, accelerating the investment progress of 220 kV, 110 kV substations and connection systems in the province, meeting the development needs of energy projects in the coming time.
