Kumquat season good price
In recent years, Hoi An City (Quang Nam) has been considered the "capital" of kumquat trees in the Central region with nearly 1,000 households growing kumquat trees, mainly concentrated in Cam Ha commune and Thanh Ha ward.
On January 25 (December 26, Tet At Ty 2025), reporters recorded that many kumquat gardens in Hoi An were purchased and transported for consumption by traders in localities such as Da Nang, Thua Thien Hue, and Binh Dinh.
With more than 10 years of experience in growing kumquat trees, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hung (Trang Suoi village, Cam Ha commune) said that to serve the Tet market this year, his family planted 600 large and small kumquat trees. On average, each seedling costs 500,000 VND, and the investment cost for the kumquat garden is more than 900 million VND.
“Currently, the entire kumquat garden has been purchased by traders, with prices ranging from 700,000 to 2 million VND/tree. It is estimated that after deducting investment costs, the family still has a profit of nearly 350 million VND,” Mr. Hung shared.
Similarly, Mr. Nguyen Viet Hai (An Bang block, Thanh Ha ward) said that this year his family planted about 500 kumquat bonsai pots of various sizes. Currently, he only leaves about 50 medium-sized kumquat bonsai trees for retail sale to his family's close customers, with prices ranging from 2 million VND to 7 million VND, even tens of millions VND.
“This year there was little rain and storms so the kumquat trees grew well, with few pests and diseases, and large, beautiful fruit. The price of ornamental kumquat trees sold to traders increased by 200,000 - 300,000 VND/pot. Kumquats have a good harvest and good prices, so growers are very excited.
After deducting investment and care costs, I earned a profit of more than 300 million VND" - Mr. Hai excitedly said.
Revenue of tens of billions of dong
A good harvest and good prices for kumquat trees not only bring stable income to garden owners, but also create jobs for many freelance workers during the days before Tet.
“Every time a garden sells kumquat trees, I help load them onto trucks for customers, and I get paid by the garden owner and extra money from the traders. Besides, I also provide a pedicab service to transport trees to customers’ homes, each trip I get 80-100 thousand VND, depending on the distance,” said a freelance worker.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Nhat - Chairman of Thanh Ha Ward People's Committee, Hoi An City, most of the kumquat trees in the locality were deposited 3 months ago and brought to provinces across the country for consumption.
Estimated revenue from growing kumquat is about 30 billion VND.
