Phu Quoc airport will be handed over to Sun Group for operation from January 1, 2026.

The Ministry of Construction issued Phu Quoc International Airport Business License No. 27/GPKDCHK-BXD on December 25, 2025 to Sun Airport Joint Stock Company under Sun Group Group.

Previously, on December 22, 2025, the Immigration Department - Ministry of Public Security issued Decision No. 12045/QD-QLXNC approving the Phu Quoc International Airport Airport Security Program.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has also issued Airport Exploitation Certificate No. 6645/GCNKT-CHK dated December 25, 2025 to the Phu Quoc International Airport Branch - Sun Airport Joint Stock Company under Sun Group.

According to the Airport Business License, Decision approving the Airport Security Program and Airport Exploitation Certificate, from 00:00 on January 1, 2026, Phu Quoc International Airport Branch - Sun Group's Sun Airport Joint Stock Company will become the new airport operator, allowed to operate and operate Phu Quoc International Airport.

SAC is responsible for fully implementing the management, operation, exploitation and maintenance of aviation infrastructure, ensuring Phu Quoc International Airport operates securely, safely, smoothly and without interruption, while fully complying with the provisions of Vietnamese aviation law and relevant laws.

The above legal documents are issued on the basis of legal bases related to management and exploitation of airports; decisions on the recovery, transfer of assets of aviation infrastructure and the assignment of assets to receiving and operating enterprises. This is an important step in the roadmap to complete the new exploitation model for Phu Quoc International Airport - a strategic gateway infrastructure of the Pearl Island.

In early August 2025, the People's Committee of An Giang province issued a decision to lease land to Sun Group's Sun Airport Joint Stock Company for the Phu Quoc International Airport Expansion Investment Project with an area of over 800 hectares, 4E ICAO standard, with the goal of increasing the capacity of phase 1 to 20 million passengers/year. The Phu Quoc International Port Expansion Investment Project is one of five projects to reach and exceed the schedule among a total of 21 priority projects preparing for APEC 2027.

Sun Airport Joint Stock Company has urgently deployed key items with authorities, including runway No. 2, T2 international terminal, VIP terminal, airport expansion and auxiliary infrastructure systems, in accordance with the Government's direction at the working session on November 14, 2025.

The international airport is assigned to a private enterprise to directly manage, operate and exploit. This model is expected to promote proactiveness and flexibility in operation, improve investment efficiency, service quality and the ability to meet the rapid growth needs of an international tourist destination like Phu Quoc.

In the context of the growing number of visitors to Phu Quoc, the airport is often overloaded, a new operating model will be applied to help Phu Quoc International Airport not only ensure stability, maintain absolute security and safety, but also improve the customer experience to meet international 5-star standards.

This is also an important foundation for the Port to be ready to meet the growth needs of passengers in the coming time and Phu Quoc to be chosen as the destination of APEC 2027, while being oriented to develop into an international coastal city, a tourism and service center with competitiveness in the region.
