On June 10, Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Nhan had a working session with the leaders of Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV) to discuss the management and exploitation of airports in the province.
According to the People's Committee of Kien Giang province, Phu Quoc airport meets level 4E, with 1 runway capable of receiving large aircraft such as A350, B787 and 4 million passengers and 5,000 tons of cargo/year. The parking lot and runway have 9 aircraft parking locations, including 1 location for large aircraft B777 or equivalent.

Regarding planning, in the period of 2021-2030, 4E airport will be granted, with a capacity of about 10 million passengers/year and 25,000 tons of cargo/year; type of aircraft exploiting B747, B787, A350 and equivalent; vision to 2050, 4E airport will be granted, with a capacity of about 18 million passengers/year and 50,000 tons of cargo/year; type of aircraft exploiting B747, B787, A350 and equivalent.
For Rach Gia Airport, the airfield was built in 1960 and has been renovated and upgraded twice by the Southern Airport Complex (in 1997 and from 10. 2006 to 4.2007) and repaired and enhanced in 2014, and is still in use today.
Rach Gia airport is planned to be a domestic port to reach level 4C by 2050 and a military airport to reach level II, the port capacity will reach 0.5 million passengers/year by 2030 and 1 million passengers/year by 2050. According to the construction plan, by 2030, the province will continue to renovate and operate Rach Gia Airport.

The People's Committee of Kien Giang province proposed that ACV study investment in upgrading Rach Gia airport according to the plan, including investing in runways to receive aircraft such as Airbus 321, attracting many airlines to operate; investing in terminals to ensure 1.0 million visitors; completing before 2027 to serve the APEC 2027 Conference.
Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee Thanh Nhan said that the Government assigned Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee to select domestic investors and organize the implementation of the Phu Quoc International Airport expansion investment project to ensure compliance with the nature of a joint civil and military airport. The province agreed with the Ministry of Construction so that ACV can continue to maintain, operate and exploit the infrastructure assets of Phu Quoc International Airport.
According to Mr. Vu The Phiet, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Airports Corporation, the unit has so far completed the work of reviewing assets of aviation infrastructure in full; completed the measurement and determination of the scope of land boundaries of enterprises and the State; responsible for maintaining and operating infrastructure to ensure uninterrupted and absolute safety in the exploitation and management of Phu Quoc International Airport during the project expansion process. Mr. Phiet also highly appreciated the proactive implementation of long-term planning associated with the expansion of Rach Gia Airport and hoped that Kien Giang province would implement all aspects of the work with a spirit of determination and synchronization. In implementing the Phu Quoc International Airport expansion project, Vietnam Airports Corporation has also established a working group to closely monitor the area and situation.
