Supermarkets stimulate Tet consumption
The Lunar New Year 2025 market is becoming more vibrant as purchasing power at supermarkets has increased by 20-30% compared to the same period last year.
Ms. Le Thu Hang (Cau Giay District, Hanoi) shared: “I see that this year many supermarkets have strong discounts, a wide variety of goods, and more reasonable prices. Thanks to that, my family's Tet shopping is also easier.”
In this context, retail systems have simultaneously launched promotional programs and festivals to attract customers. For example, Central Retail has reduced prices by 20-45% on meats, including Chilean cherries at record low prices. MM Mega Market has regional specialties such as four-season chicken for 99,000 VND/kg, purple sticky rice cake for 319,000 VND/combo and Hoa Loc mango for 249,000 VND/3kg box.
At Saigon Co.op, Chilean cherries have dropped to VND199,000/kg, 20-30% lower than last year. Many other products have been reduced by 5-30%, while the "Same Price Tet Market" program with prices starting at VND10,000 has attracted many buyers.
WinMart/WinMart+/WiN offers promotions of up to 50% off, buy 1 get 1 free or buy 2 get 1 free on many items. The system also has a WiN Membership program, offering 20% off on all WinEco vegetables, MEATDeli meat and products from famous brands. The personalized Tet gift basket service also helps customers choose easily and save time.
To meet the increased shopping demand, supermarkets have extended their service hours. MM Mega Market is open 24/7 from January 24 to 27, while WinMart is open until 12 noon on January 28 (the 29th of Tet) and reopens from February 1 (the 4th day of Tet).
Promoting domestic market development during Tet
In Hanoi, the Department of Industry and Trade coordinated with 22 retail businesses to commit not to increase prices of essential goods during Tet. Authorities have stepped up market inspections to ensure an abundant supply of goods and stable prices.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade also requested large enterprises such as Saigon Beer - Alcohol - Beverage Corporation, Vietnam Oil and Gas Group, and Vietnam Textile and Garment Group to maintain production during Tet, prioritize the use of domestic materials to reduce costs, and minimize shortages and virtual price hikes.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade encourages the promotion of large-scale promotional programs and deep discounts for essential products and high-quality Vietnamese goods to increase competitiveness with imported goods. High-demand items such as fresh food, cakes, candies, and beverages are guaranteed a stable supply and reasonable prices.
Vietnam Electricity Group is directed to ensure stable power supply, especially in areas producing essential goods, industrial parks and densely populated residential areas.
These efforts not only help the Tet market become more vibrant but also create the premise for sustainable economic growth in the new year. People can rest assured when shopping with abundant sources of goods, reasonable prices and many attractive incentive programs during the Tet At Ty.
