Fisherman Nguyen Dinh Tu said that the 9th day is a good day, so many fishing vessels choose to go out to sea, along with the not too big waves, creating favorable conditions for fishing vessels.
According to the custom of Binh Thuan fishermen, the sea trip at the beginning of the year is not only an affirmation of faith in the ocean, but also a symbol of the wish for the whole year to "go all the way" for the fish season, full of shrimp and a desire to be full for each family.
Before that, the ship owners had informed their fellow crew members to prepare their belongings and bring fishing gear, trawl nets, fuel, and necessary supplies onto the ship. Because large-capacity fishing vessels fish in far-off waters, they often spend more than a month at sea.
After the Tet holiday, there is often a shortage of crew members and seafarers because these people still want to stay home for Tet. However, ship owners often have ways to encourage and mobilize fishermen to participate in sea trips on schedule to have enough workers for the ship, not affecting the fishing plan.
Many fishing vessels have had enough to work at sea, and have fully declared their departure procedures, following each other out of Phan Thiet estuary.
The early spring sea trip also contributed to creating a vivid image of the dynamic marine economy of Binh Thuan province.
To date, the whole Binh Thuan province has 8,337 fishing vessels registered and updated based on the national database VNFishbase. In recent times, Binh Thuan province has focused on preventing and combating IUU fishing with many solutions.
