Green transformation becomes a mandatory requirement to improve competitiveness
Speaking at the opening of the 2026 Green Transformation Day event with the theme "Green Transformation - Driving Force for Vietnam's New Growth Model" organized by Lao Dong Newspaper in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Hanoi People's Committee, Mr. Le Cong Thanh, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment assessed that the event is not only a meaningful communication activity, but also a practical forum for management agencies, the business community, experts, and scientists to exchange and share initiatives, remove obstacles to spread the spirit of action for a green, rapid and sustainable Vietnam.
We are facing a new development requirement. Climate change, resource depletion, environmental pollution, pressure to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increasingly high green standards of the international market are posing unprecedented challenges. But at the same time, this is also an opportunity for Vietnam to restructure its growth model, improve productivity, quality, efficiency and competitiveness of the economy" - Deputy Minister Thanh emphasized.
The Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress clearly identified the requirement to build a new growth model, based on science, technology, innovation, digital transformation and green transformation; promoting the digital economy, green economy, circular economy and energy transformation. This is a strategic orientation, reflecting the country's long-term development vision in the new context.

Therefore, green transformation is no longer an encouraging option, but has become a mandatory requirement of development, a condition for businesses to participate more deeply in the global value chain, a foundation to improve national competitiveness; and this is also one of the new driving forces to achieve the goal of double-digit growth, improving and comprehensively enhancing people's lives.
To have a new growth model, we must accelerate green transformation. To develop quickly and sustainably, we must shift from a growth model based heavily on resource exploitation to a growth model based on knowledge, technology, innovation, efficient use of resources, emission reduction and environmental protection.

Unlocking resources for green transformation
To accelerate green transformation in the spirit of the Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress, representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment requested ministries, branches, localities, businesses, and people to focus on implementing a number of key tasks below.
First, making green transformation one of the central driving forces of the new growth model.
Green transformation is not a fixed destination, but a continuous journey of innovation and creativity and is the most effective way to harmoniously resolve the relationship between economy and environmental protection. Green transformation needs to be implemented right from the design of planning, investment projects, production, consumption, and waste management towards a circular economy.
Green transformation needs to be concretized in each industry, each field such as: green agriculture, ecological agriculture, low-emission agriculture; energy-saving industry; green cities; green transportation; renewable energy; green tourism; green finance; green consumption. Each industry, each locality, each business needs to clearly define its green transformation roadmap, have specific actions, not wait, not stand aside.
Second, unlock resources for green transformation. Green transformation requires very large resources. Therefore, green credit, green bonds, sustainable finance, carbon markets and other environmental economic tools play a particularly important role.

I strongly agree with the framework of the series of events, Lao Dong Newspaper plans to organize forums on sustainable energy, green credit and policy talks. These are very practical contents, because to successfully transform green, there must be green capital flows, green transformation incentive mechanisms and clear green criteria" - Mr. Thanh shared.
Representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment said that they will continue to improve the criteria for environment, green projects, projects meeting the criteria of circular economy; promote transparency of green capital flows, green production and consumption, prevent the situation of "formal greening", and at the same time create conditions for businesses that are substantive, responsible, and innovative to have more favorable access to sustainable financial resources.
Third, turn green transformation into action of the whole society.
The State plays a role in creating institutions, orienting policies, building criteria, standards and creating a favorable and equal environment. Businesses are the central force in innovating production and business models. People are important subjects in changing consumption behavior, using energy economically, reducing plastic waste, and choosing environmentally friendly products and vehicles.
In that process, press and media agencies play an extremely important role, not only transmitting information, but also contributing to creating social consensus, spreading good models, encouraging good initiatives, reflecting difficulties and obstacles from practice and promoting policy completion.
Leaders of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment expressed their belief that with the involvement of the entire political system, the companionship of the business community, experts, scientists, press agencies, media and people, Vietnam will gradually form a new growth model: greener, more circular, with better resilience and higher competitiveness.
In order to promote the green transformation process and effectively implement the Party's Resolution, Lao Dong Newspaper coordinates with the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Hanoi City People's Committee to organize Green Transformation Day 2026 with the theme "Green Transformation - Driving Force for Vietnam's new growth model".
This event is a continuation of the success of the Green Transformation Day 2025 series of events, contributing to spreading the spirit of green action, promoting innovation and creating momentum for sustainable growth for the country.

Green Transformation Day 2026 with the theme "Green Transformation - Driving Force for Vietnam's New Growth Model" takes place from 8:00 AM on May 16, 2026 at Cau Giay Park (Hanoi).
In the context of increasingly complex climate change, sustainable development and green growth are becoming an inevitable trend for many countries around the world. Vietnam is in a period of rapid development, but also facing the challenge of increasing greenhouse gas emissions.
At the COP26 Conference, Vietnam pledged to aim for a net zero emissions target by 2050, contributing to the international community in controlling global temperature increases not exceeding 1.5 degrees Celsius under the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.
This orientation continues to be affirmed in the Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress, which emphasizes the establishment of a new growth model based on improving the productivity, quality, efficiency and competitiveness of the economy; taking science, technology, innovation and digital transformation as the main driving forces; and at the same time promoting the development of the digital economy, green economy, circular economy, promoting digital transformation, green transformation and energy transformation.
