According to records, the 2025 Tet flower market has somewhat improved, with prices increasing by 15-30% compared to last year. Nearly a month ago, many traders actively went to the garden to deposit Tet flowers, even increasing the number of orders afterwards.
However, after the impact of bad weather, cold air, unseasonal rain, traders haggling to reduce prices with the reason of low flower quality, gardeners fell into a "dilemma".
In the 2025 Tet crop season, gardener Tran Thi Kim Lien (Binh Thuy district, Can Tho city) received a deposit from traders for 2,000 flower pots of various types, then the deposit increased by 1,000 pots.
Near New Year's Eve, traders came to Ms. Lien's garden to get the goods, then bargained to reduce the deposit price to 5,000-10,000 VND/pot. The price of chrysanthemums was reduced from 185,000 VND/pair to 175,000 VND/pair, some other plants such as cat tuong and marigolds were also reduced by 5,000 VND/pot.
"They said the flowers were ugly and of poor quality, so they haggled and forced down the price. This year I increased the quantity I planted. If we can't reach an agreement and they forfeit the deposit, I don't know what to do, so even though I don't want to, I still have to agree to a price reduction," said Ms. Lien.
Previously, because of fear of "bombing" when traders increased deposits, Mr. Tran Van Man (Vi Thuy district, Hau Giang province) asked traders to deposit 1/2 of the value of the tree before agreeing to sell.
More than 40 of Mr. Man's apricot trees, traders have deposited to buy at an average price of 5 million VND/tree, a 15% increase in purchasing power compared to last year. For the high-value apricot trees, Mr. Man will display and sell them during Tet.
In order to facilitate connections between traders, gardeners and ornamental flower producers, the People's Committee of Can Tho City has agreed in principle to assign the Department of Industry and Trade to organize the Tet flower market of At Ty year 2025. It is expected that there will be over 200 lots and stalls displaying and trading ornamental flowers, ornamental plants, and bonsai of gardeners, farmers, and small traders in Can Tho City and the Mekong Delta provinces.
