Sold out as soon as it opened, meat price increased by several thousand dong/kg
Early in the morning of September 6, before going to work, Ms. Kim Khanh (Cau Giay district, Hanoi) stopped by Dong Xa market (Mai Dich) to buy chicken and vegetables to prepare for super typhoon No. 3.
However, even though it was still early, the market was already filled with people jostling to buy things, which left Ms. Khanh shocked. "People were going to the market like they were going to a festival, buying bunches of vegetables and pieces of meat.
Some people even brought home a quarter of a pig. The vendors were competing to raise prices, but everyone had to buy," Khanh shared. Even when she waited for her turn, Khanh could not buy any meat because the stall was empty.
According to Lao Dong reporters, at some shops on Me Tri Thuong Street (Nam Tu Liem - Hanoi), essential foods such as meat, vegetables or rice... are selling very well.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong, a pork vendor on Me Tri Thuong Street, shared: "Usually at this time I still have a lot of goods, but today I have almost sold out. The pork belly was sold out as soon as it was sold out. I did not expect that so I did not import more goods, it was almost 9 o'clock and it was all sold out. Today's price increased by a few thousand VND/kg."
In a similar situation, Mr. Tran Van De - a pork merchant at alley 26 Doan Ke Thien (Cau Giay) said that although he had planned for a larger number of customers due to the upcoming super typhoon, he was still surprised today when, after just opening his shop for more than an hour, he had sold out a large pig.
"In addition to selling meat, I also deliver lard to some restaurants every day, but today I went around the market to collect it but still couldn't get enough for the restaurant," De shared.
Vegetables are starting to run short.
At 9am, Nguyen Thu Ha (Cau Giay, Hanoi) hurriedly ran from her office to the flea market to buy food to stock up on for the days of the super typhoon, but when she got to the market, Ha was still surprised to see that there were not many vegetables left.
"I was mentally prepared that vegetables would be expensive, but I didn't expect them to sell out sooner than I thought. I had to go through many stalls before I could buy some water spinach and bitter greens," Ha said.
Ha shared that many vendors at the market are rushing to order more items, and convenience stores and small supermarkets are crowded with people.
Meanwhile, according to reporters at Tam Nam Trung Yen market (Cau Giay, Hanoi), vegetable products are still quite diverse.
