Spending millions on pet care services during the rainy season

Can Tho - To ensure the health of pets during the rainy season, many people have spent millions of dong on care services. Pet facilities have also increased their revenue from that.

Spend millions on services

With the change in weather when the rainy season comes, Ms. Nguyen Nhu Huynh (Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city) has to regularly take her pet to a care facility to use services such as bathing, cutting, and trimming hair.

“The rainy season is the time when pets are most susceptible to skin and fur diseases, so I often prioritize taking my cat to a grooming facility for check-ups, haircuts, and baths. Each visit will cost several hundred, or even millions of dong, if health problems arise,” said Ms. Huynh.

Ms. Huynh estimates that her pet care expenses have increased to VND2 million/month in recent months. For her, these expenses are necessary to prevent diseases for her pets as well as protect her own health. This is also a way to help her save money because if her pets get sick, the treatment costs will be even more expensive.

Every 1-2 weeks, Mr. Do Thanh Duy (Cai Rang district, Can Tho city) takes his pet to a care service. He said that for the past 3 months, he has had to spend an additional 1-2 million VND/month on care fees.

“When the weather changes, pet fur is susceptible to mold, bacteria, and fungal diseases. Taking your pet in for a check-up and care will help prevent diseases. Although it costs a lot of money, at least I feel more secure,” Duy shared.

Care facility earning opportunities

The high demand for pet care during the rainy season has helped the revenue of Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia's shop (Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city) increase by 30%/month. Of which, the service related to grooming is the most popular.

Mr. Nghia explained that because many people worry that their pets will get skin and fur diseases when the weather changes, this type of service is sought after.

“In addition to bringing pets to the store for check-ups, customers also choose packages for cutting, trimming, bathing, and shampooing with service prices ranging from 100,000 - 400,000 VND/time. Health care and vaccination services alone can cost up to several million VND,” said Mr. Nghia.

Mr. Le Hong Phuc - owner of a pet care shop in Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city - shared that, along with high demand during the rainy season, he also applied some promotional programs. Accordingly, in addition to individual pet care services, if customers choose combo packages from 500,000 VND or more, they will receive a discount or another care service.

With this method, the number of customers at Mr. Phuc's store increased by about 20%, and during peak days of the rainy season, the number of customers can increase sharply by 30 - 40%. Profit after deducting expenses is estimated to increase by nearly 40 million VND/month.
