China Daily cited Hurun's list of the world's richest people as saying that the number of billionaires in the world has increased by 346 people, reaching a record of 2,816 billionaires, holding assets of 11.2 trillion USD, an increase of 66% compared to 5 years ago.
The total assets of the top 10 billionaires are nearly 1 trillion USD.
China has 799 billionaires, 173 more than the US. These two countries account for more than half of the billionaires on the planet.
Hurun said the IT industry (technology, media and telecommunications) is the main source of assets for the world's billionaires, accounting for 18% of total assets.
This year's list includes 90 billionaires aged 40 and under, up 5 compared to last year, 54 self-made billionaires and 36 inherited billionaires.
Alibabas founder, Jack Ma, tops the list of Chinese billionaires with $45 billion.
