On May 25, "Vietnam Arbitration and Mediation Week 2026" co-organized by the Vietnam International Arbitration Center (VIAC) and the Vietnam Lawyers Association officially opened in Hanoi.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of Justice Mai Luong Khoi affirmed that a rapidly and sustainably developing economy not only needs resources and technology but also needs a stable, transparent, and predictable legal environment. In which property rights, freedom of business, freedom of contract are protected and disputes are resolved promptly, fairly, and effectively.

Along with the context that the country is promoting innovation in the growth model, unlocking resources, and improving national competitiveness, commercial arbitration and commercial mediation play an increasingly important role as legal institutions to support investment and business activities, contributing to protecting the legitimate rights and interests of all parties. The event is an important forum to look back at practice, identify new requirements, share international experiences as well as propose practical solutions for the process of perfecting the institution of arbitration and commercial mediation in Vietnam," Deputy Minister Mai Luong Khoi assessed.
Speaking at the event, Prof. Dr. Le Hong Hanh - Chairman of the Vietnam International Arbitration Center (VIAC) assessed that in recent years, international trade, investment and business activities are changing very rapidly under the impact of many factors such as supply chain shifts, geopolitical fluctuations, digital transformation and the strong development of technology.

In the field of trade and investment, we can easily see the increase in the number, scale of value, complexity and transboundary nature of trade and investment disputes. It is not easy to resolve trade and investment disputes that are currently associated with the circulation of financial resources and the common application of this field is Fintech, disputes related to digital assets and intellectual property.
Global trade and investment practices guide us towards the most acceptable dispute resolution mechanism for disputing parties thanks to its flexibility, efficiency, fairness and conformity with international standards. Arbitration, mediation and ADR methods are the mechanisms we are aiming for not only in global trade and investment but also within each country," Prof. Dr. Le Hong Hanh analyzed.

According to Prof. Dr. Le Hong Hanh, in Vietnam, along with the process of international integration and the development of the economy, the demand for using arbitration and ADR is also clearly increasing, not only in terms of the number of disputes but also in terms of requirements for service quality and legal standards.
This poses a particularly important task for arbitration organizations, arbitrators, mediators, lawyers and the professional community in Vietnam: Constantly innovate and improve the quality of their operations in the field of arbitration, mediation and other ADR methods.
With the goal of performing this task within its operational scope, VIAC in the past time has continued to promote many reform activities to improve the quality of dispute resolution activities at VIAC, including the development and promulgation of the VIAC 2026 Arbitration Procedure Code with many amended contents in the direction of modernity, flexibility, reaching higher to reach international standards and being more suitable for dispute resolution practice," Prof. Dr. Le Hong Hanh said.

At the Workshop, there was a roundtable discussion session with the theme "Improving Arbitration Standards - Expectations from Users". The discussion opinions focused on exchanging views on the trend of shifting the focus of global arbitration activities to Asia, the increasingly high requirements for arbitration organizations in improving enforcement efficiency and service quality, as well as the ability to meet international standards in dispute resolution practice in Vietnam.
