On August 10, 2026, Vietjet and Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) awarded a Strategic Cooperation Agreement, and announced the Ho Chi Minh City - Western Sydney direct route, opening an additional aviation bridge between the two countries, promoting tourism, trade, investment, innovation and people-to-people exchanges.
The Agreement handover ceremony took place in the presence of Politburo Member, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defense Phan Van Giang, along with senior leaders and the business community of the two countries, within the framework of the Tech Connect Forum in Sydney - the first large-scale forum between Vietnam and Australia specializing in science, technology, innovation and education.
Pioneering Australia's new aviation gateway
In an important milestone of Vietnam - Australia relations, Vietjet officially announced the direct route Ho Chi Minh City - Western Sydney from January 9, 2027, becoming one of the pioneering airlines connecting internationally to Australia's newest airport.
The route operates 2 round-trip flights per week, connecting Ho Chi Minh City - Vietnam's leading dynamic economic center - with Western Sydney, a new growth pole of Australia, expanding the flow of passengers, goods, trade and investment between the two economies.
Flights from Ho Chi Minh City depart on Tuesday and Saturday at 9:20 PM, arrive at WSI at 10:00 AM the next day. The return flight departs from WSI on Wednesday and Sunday at 12:05 PM, arrives in Ho Chi Minh City at 4:30 PM on the same day (local time).

Welcoming Vietjet to the new air gateway, Mr. Simon Hickey - CEO of Western Sydney International Airport - shared: "We are very pleased that Vietjet officially opens ticket sales from today for the new route expected to operate from January 2027. Western Sydney is one of the most multicultural and fastest growing areas in Australia, and is also home to more than half of the Vietnamese community in the Sydney metropolitan area, with more than 70,000 people regularly needing to travel and visit relatives.
Connecting two growth centers
WSI is the first international airport to be completely newly built in Australia in more than 50 years, operating July 24 and is the core of Western Sydney Aerotropolis - Sydney's new economic, logistics and innovation center. The airport is planned to have a capacity of 82 million passengers per year.
Sydney and Ho Chi Minh City are both important economic, financial, commercial and international gateways. Therefore, direct connection between the two cities is not only of aviation significance, but also contributes to forming a new corridor for tourism, trade, investment, education, technology and people-to-people exchanges between Vietnam and Australia.
