Great potential, new driving force for growth
After expanding its development space, Vinh Long is facing a great opportunity to break through, especially in the field of renewable energy. With outstanding natural advantages, this locality is gradually positioning itself as a clean energy center of the Mekong Delta region. One of the main foundational factors is favorable natural conditions.
Vinh Long owns more than 130km of coastline and a system of 06/09 large river mouths flowing into the East Sea, creating ideal conditions for the development of wind power and solar power. The average solar radiation intensity and wind speed of the province are assessed to be among the highest in the region, bringing great exploitation potential.
According to specialized units, the total technical potential of wind power in the province can reach about 35,000MW, of which offshore wind power accounts for the majority. This is an impressive figure, putting Vinh Long into the group of localities with leading wind energy potential in the country. Not only stopping at potential, renewable energy in Vinh Long has entered a stage of substantial development.
As of the beginning of 2026, the whole province has about 15 wind power projects operating with a total capacity of about 650MW, operating stably, reaching about 95% of designed capacity. Renewable electricity production has made a significant contribution to budget revenue, creating momentum for economic growth.
In addition, a series of new projects are being implemented. Currently, more than 1,200MW of wind power is completing procedures and construction, along with many solar power, biomass power, and waste power projects planned to 2030. It can be seen that renewable energy is no longer a potential sector but is becoming a new economic pillar, contributing to helping Vinh Long aim for double-digit growth in the coming time.
Proactively exploit potential, create a green development platform
According to Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan - Director of Vinh Long Department of Industry and Trade, renewable energy projects in the area not only provide stable electricity but also make positive contributions to the budget, create jobs and promote economic restructuring towards modernity and sustainability.
Mr. Tuan said that the province's consistent orientation is to develop renewable energy associated with environmental protection, not to trade the environment for growth. Therefore, the Ministry of Industry and Trade always recommends that investors choose advanced technology, minimize impact on the ecosystem, and at the same time pay attention to harmonizing interests with the community where the project is implemented.

Along with that, the province also focuses on building a transparent and open investment environment, considering the convenience of businesses as a measure of operating efficiency. Problems in the project implementation process are proactively resolved through close coordination between localities and central ministries and sectors. Another important factor is the increasingly complete power transmission infrastructure. The 110kV, 220kV, 500kV power line and substation systems are invested synchronously, helping to relieve capacity for renewable energy projects, avoiding the situation of "excess electricity but no power generation".
Not only creating revenue, energy projects also open up thousands of jobs for local workers, from construction and operation to supporting services, leading to the development of supporting industries such as logistics, services, and marine tourism, contributing to improving people's lives.
Towards the region's renewable energy center
According to Mr. Nguyen Quynh Thien - Vice Chairman of Vinh Long Provincial People's Committee, the province identifies renewable energy development as one of the strategic pillars, associated with the goal of becoming a clean energy center of the region. Based on the national power plan, Vinh Long is synchronously implementing plans suitable to local conditions, especially focusing on developing new energy, renewable energy in Dinh An economic zone with a scale of about 39,000ha approved by the Prime Minister.
According to the orientation to 2030, the province will develop dozens of wind and solar power projects with a total capacity of thousands of MW, gradually forming a large-scale renewable energy center of the Mekong Delta region. Not only stopping at electricity production, Vinh Long also aims for a higher goal of deeply participating in the energy value chain, from electricity production, transmission to export in the future, improving competitiveness and integration into the regional energy market.
In parallel with economic development, the province pays special attention to environmental factors, towards green growth models, circular economy and greenhouse gas emission reduction. This is also a step in line with Vietnam's commitment to net zero emissions by 2050. With outstanding natural advantages, strategic vision and the companionship of businesses, Vinh Long is fully meeting the conditions to become the renewable energy center of the region.
Focus on developing new energy, renewable energy to serve industrial production in the direction of green economy, circular economy in Dinh An Economic Zone, contributing to improving resource efficiency, reducing emissions and towards sustainable development..." - Mr. Thien added.
In the near future, wind power fields and large-scale solar power projects will not only create clean electricity but also become symbols of the green and sustainable transformation journey of the locality - a dynamic, modern and rich in development potential Vinh Long.
