The policy of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment sets a target of achieving agricultural, forestry and fishery export turnover of about 73-74 billion USD in 2026, continuing to develop the market and consume agricultural products.

Exports of agricultural, forestry and fishery products steadily increase

According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the GDP of the whole industry in 2025 reached over 3.9%, export turnover of agriculture, forestry and fishery reached 70 billion USD, far exceeding the target of 65 billion USD set at the beginning of the year. Among them, many key export items have recorded impressive results such as coffee, vegetables, fruits, seafood and forestry products. Especially seafood, coffee, vegetables and fruits and have export turnover exceeding the 8 billion USD mark.

In January 2026, export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products reached 6.51 billion USD, up 29.5% over the same period. Of which, agricultural products reached 3.6 billion USD, up 41.8%; livestock reached 47.5 million USD, up 20.2%; seafood reached 940 million USD, up 21.5%; forestry products reached 1.72 billion USD. Asia is the largest market, accounting for 45.3% market share.

Coffee exports reached 180 thousand tons, reaching 981 million USD, an increase of 25.5% in volume and 26.6% in value. Rice exports reached 600 thousand tons, 370 million USD, an increase of 12.4% in volume and 16.9% in value. Vegetables and fruits reached 750 million USD, doubling compared to the same period. Seafood reached 940 million USD, and wood reached 1.6 billion USD, an increase of 12.1%.

Continue to restructure agriculture towards increasing value

Stepping into 2026, the entire agricultural sector strives to achieve a growth rate of 3.7-4%; total export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products reaches about 73-74 billion USD. To complete the set goals, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has identified key solutions to implement right from the early days of the year. Including solutions for breakthroughs in science, technology and innovation. Science and technology must not only serve production but must truly become a driving force for development. The Ministry prioritizes major scientific tasks, which are strategic, associated with growth model transformation, ecological agriculture, circular economy and emission reduction. Investment in science and technology is considered investment for the long-term future of the industry.

In addition, the sector continues to restructure agriculture in the direction of increasing added value, sustainable development, associated with food safety and traceability. Restructuring is not only in cultivation, animal husbandry, aquaculture, forestry but also in the entire value chain, from production to processing, consumption, adapting flexibly to the requirements of each export market.

Developing the market and promoting agricultural product consumption is a consistent solution. Specialized units closely link production with the market, strengthen trade promotion, product promotion, and support businesses and cooperatives to expand domestic and international markets.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment focuses on developing effective forms of production and business organization; building a new type of agricultural enterprise and cooperative ecosystem; and at the same time strengthening disease prevention and control on crops, livestock and aquaculture to protect production and stabilize the market.

Stepping into 2026, we enter the stage of task implementation in the new context: Implementing major orientations according to the Resolution of the 14th National Congress, the 2026-2030 development plan and the operating spirit of "discipline and responsibility; proactiveness and efficiency; innovation; accelerating breakthroughs; sustainable growth".

The Ministry identifies the general objective as developing ecological agriculture, modern rural areas, civilized farmers; effectively using resources; improving capacity to adapt to climate change; ensuring food security and ecological security," Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Phung Duc Tien emphasized.
