Rearview cameras have become a familiar equipment on most modern car models, helping drivers observe the rear of the car and support safer parking.
However, many car owners encounter the situation that the reversing camera is blurry, flickering, or even the screen is completely dark when setting up the reversing gear.
According to car technical experts, the reason why the reversing camera does not work may stem from many different factors, from simple errors such as dirty lenses to complex incidents related to electrical systems, sensors or control software on the car.
Why is the reversing camera blurred?
One of the most common causes is that the camera lens is covered with dust, mud or water.
The reversing camera is usually installed in the rear of the car, so it is very easy to get dirty during use.
To fix it, the car owner can wash the lens with water and then gently wipe it with a soft, damp cloth.
Car manufacturers such as Toyota, Ford or Tesla all recommend not using abrasive detergents because they can scratch the lens surface, causing image quality to decline.
If it has been cleaned but the image is still blurry, the car owner should check if the lens is scratched or cracked.
In some cases, minor impacts can also cause the camera to deviate, reducing visibility and requiring adjustment or replacement.
Camera operates intermittently
The image condition is sometimes there and sometimes not, often related to loose or damaged power lines or signal connectors due to the frequent opening and closing of the trunk.
In addition, steam accumulating inside or outside the camera cluster can also cause temporary signal loss. If cleaning cannot be repaired, the car owner should take the car to the garage to check the electrical system.
Fully white or black screen
If the screen does not display images when setting the reversing gear, the cause may be a broken camera, a reversing gear sensor malfunction, or the control system does not receive signals. Some cases are also related to software errors, so updating to the latest version for the car may help fix the problem.
With a built-in reversing camera
Rearward cameras installed outside can also encounter errors similar to the original system. For wired types, users should check the condition of the wires, protective covers and connectors.
Meanwhile, wireless cameras often use batteries or Wi-Fi, Bluetooth connections. If the camera loses signal or does not display images, the car owner should check the battery and reconnect the device to the central screen.
