What is dark circle?
Dark circles are the appearance of darker skin under the eyes than other areas of the face, making the face look tired and lifeless.
"Dark circles are caused by a variety of factors, including lack of sleep, stress, genetics, allergies, dehydration or aging," explains Dr. Karuna Malhotra, a dermatologist at Karuna Malhotra Dermatology Center in Mumbai, India.
The effect of aloe vera in treating dark circles
Aloe vera is a natural ingredient known for its moisturizing and soothing properties. According to Dr. Malhotra, aloe vera has many beneficial properties for reducing dark circles in the eyes:
Provides moisture: Aloe vera is a great natural moisturizer. The skin under the eyes is often thin and prone to dryness, making dark circles more noticeable. Aloe vera helps hydrate the skin, making this area look smoother and brighter.
Anti-inflammatory: Aloe vera has powerful anti-inflammatory properties, helping to reduce swelling and puffiness. This is helpful when your dark circles come from lack of sleep or water retention.
Antioxidants: Aloe vera contains vitamins A, C and E, which are antioxidants that help repair damaged skin cells, protect the skin from the harmful effects of UV rays and oxidation, helping to brighten the skin and reduce pigmentation.
Improve skin tone: Regular use of aloe vera can brighten the skin under the eyes, reducing uneven skin tone.
How to use
To use aloe vera effectively, you can apply some simple ways below, depending on your skin type:
For dry skin: Mix 1 teaspoon of aloe vera gel with a vitamin E capsule, apply it to the eye area before going to bed and rinse the next morning.
For oily or acne-prone skin: Mix aloe vera gel with fresh cucumber juice, apply to the eye area for 15-20 minutes. Both of these ingredients have the ability to hydrate without clogging pores.
For sensitive skin: Apply a thin layer of pure aloe vera gel to the skin under the eyes and leave it overnight. The next morning, rinse.
For pigmented skin: Mix aloe vera gel with a little turmeric powder. Apply the mixture to the eye area for about 10 minutes, 3 - 4 times a week to reduce skin pigmentation.
For mature skin: Combine aloe vera gel with spring essential oil, gently massage into the eye area to promote collagen and prevent aging.
