Actor Ha Viet Dung and a year as general manager in movies to boss in real life

The conversation with actor Ha Viet Dung took place in a rather "proper" year-end rhythm: everyone is a bit rushed, a bit messy, but still a bit proud after a year of many milestones.

2025 can be considered a year of many milestones for actor Ha Viet Dung when he continuously made an impression on prime time. With different roles, Ha Viet Dung considers it as a stepping stone for 2026 to "accelerate", renewing himself more sustainably.

Hello actor Ha Viet Dung, if you were to describe 2025 with a word, what would it be?

- If I had to describe a word in 2025, perhaps I would choose "overcoming obstacles". I often jokingly say that life is like watching "Road to Olympia Peak": There is warm-up, there is overcoming obstacles, there is acceleration and reaching the finish line. Last year for me was exactly like going through each stage like that.

In general, last year there were many new things for myself, there were obstacles, things that I didn't dare to do before, but in 2025 I also did it.

Overcoming Obstacles" sounds both fun and challenging. If you list the biggest "obstacles", where would you start?

- First, I tried to build my own product brand - Da River carp floss. I also persistently stuck to develop the product. Although initially no one knew about it, gradually, more people knew about it, and I also had more motivation.

Second is the matter of building a house, doing homestay. Building a house has many tasks, everything has to be taken care of, but I am still unfamiliar because I have no experience. Not to mention that after building it, I see that there are many costs arising, and my husband and I have also taken on the burden to complete it.

Third, I have renewed myself in acting. At first, I was quite unconfident when taking on emotional roles like Vien in the movie "One millimeter away from you". This is a fairly new image, a "soái ca", "president", and also has a love affair. I consider it an obstacle and try to overcome it as much as possible. Initially, I was not confident enough, but fortunately, the producer and director gave me the opportunity to perform this role. Therefore, 2025 for me is "overcoming obstacles" in the true sense.

It can be said that in the last months of 2025, the name Ha Viet Dung covered prime time with 2 impressive roles: Vien in the movie "1 millimeter away from you" and Chan in "Lan ranh". Which role is more impressive to you and leaves more memories with you?

- In 2025, I will participate in 2 films "Lan ranh" by director Mai Hien and "Cach em 1 milimet" by directors Pham Gia Phuong and Tran Trong Khoi. To be honest, I feel very lucky and proud of myself, because I am participating in 2 prime time films that are broadcast at the same time.

I am very grateful to the producers as well as the directors for giving me the opportunity to participate in these films, to work with veteran and talented actors.

Regarding the characters, I think both are good, both have interesting "links". Vien in the movie "1 millimeter away from you" has more duration. As for "Lan Ranh", the character Chan is also an interesting role as the husband of a Deputy Prosecutor. Actually, every role leaves an impression on me. Because to create a good movie, every link must run smoothly, every character must be tight. It is indispensable that any element, whether it is a small or large role crew... must coordinate smoothly with each other to create a good movie. I like both of these roles.

Thanks to these 2 roles, the audience also sees his versatility more when although they are both on air, they are not mixed in color. 2 roles with 2 very unique styles, a Vien "General Director" in "One millimeter away from you" and a Chan who is always principled but also has a hint of inferiority because he is inferior to his wife in "The Line". Is taking on 2 roles at the same time a difficulty or a challenge for you?

- I am very grateful to the audience for recognizing Ha Viet Dung as separating two different types of characters. I myself often think multi-dimensionally, when I think about the character's origin, action, confidence or personality will arise.

The character Chan in "Lan ranh" is a state official, with a wife working in procuracy/civil law, and he himself has certain violations, so he will have his own self-doubt points. Moreover, Chan's origin is also "from the countryside", his economy is not well-off... so with such a fate, his way of expressing himself will be different.

Chan is completely different from Vien, from a young age he was a confident and active person. From a young age Vien understood games, had knowledge of calculation, and worked in a company specializing in games very actively and youthfully. That character's personality will be comfortable, only a little nostalgia for feelings, about deep love. So Dung thinks he can be separated.

Of course, in addition to the fact that I have a script in hand, the screenwriter has arranged it in advance, and the director is also the one who balances it so that I can act as accurately as possible with the character. I also have to calculate from the physique, way of walking, way of speaking, accents... to make it different, from which two completely different characters emerge.

As you shared, Vien in the movie "One millimeter away from you" is a liberal person, a true "CEO", a perfect role model. What are the similarities and differences between this character and you in real life?

- Actually, I have never been a "CEO" in real life. I was born and raised in a high mountainous area, my parents were purely farmers, working hard, and my family was in difficult circumstances. I also had to try and make a lot of effort to have a better life. But just to say that, currently my life is still peaceful, still trying and striving every day to improve myself, from acting to life, worrying about making a living every day. My parents are getting older, my children are growing up, I have a family to take care of, and also business... so I probably have nothing like Vien.

Vien is single, cheerful, has economic conditions, "CEO" Vien in real life is completely different from Dung. Probably if there is a similarity, it's just a little bit similar in appearance.

Golden hour movies in recent years have been commented on as "monochrome", from the script to the cast are all familiar faces. Many viewers think that Ha Viet Dung with the role of Vien in the movie "One millimeter away from you" brings a "new breeze" and even joke that he should be more famous. What do you think?

- Actually, I can't say good things myself. When I encounter good scripts, good directors, good co-stars, all blend together to create a good film. I don't think there will be "a small bird" that makes Spring. Making films must be collective, with many layers, many characters, many personalities. When harmonizing from scripts, actors, acting, director adjustments... then it will be good. So I can't confidently say this or that, I just think in my heart that I must try to innovate myself in every role as much as possible, study the characters in depth to fulfill my responsibilities first.

When everyone does a good part, the movie will be better. When the audience has trusted and loved, I also tell myself that I will do my best, always innovate so that the audience watching any movie will see a new image, a new character. Thank you very much to the audience.

Looking back at 2025, what do you think is the best and most regrettable thing, can you share with the audience?

- As I shared, perhaps the most gained thing is that I have "overcome obstacles" with quite big things and have impressive roles for the audience, from a different perspective, different types of characters. In general, 2025 is quite stable for Dung. Hopefully, 2025 "overcoming obstacles" will also be a stepping stone for Dung to accelerate and make more breakthroughs in the coming year.

Actually, there are still concerns about whether I have done well or what I have done in the past year... But looking back, I think I have tried my best, doing it with all my sincerity.

Are there any roles this year that you think you will do better if you can do them again?

- Probably yes, no matter which role I've ever played, I think if I come back, I might do better. Every day that passes, I remind myself to cherish every opportunity. I know there will be regrets, things that have not been done, if there is another opportunity, I will do better. But actually, even if I say it, I can't do it again, so I will learn from experience to see what I'm missing and have to adjust it right from the later stages.

I really hope the audience will continue to accompany me to see newer things from a Ha Viet Dung.

So do you want the audience to see a Ha Viet Dung in 2026?

- I also can't say for sure because until now I don't know if I will be invited for a movie in the near future, which director, what script?

At this time, I want a lot, but not always have the script in the type I like. So, no matter what type of role, when I receive the script in hand, I will try to make that character as good as possible. I myself will also try to have even better types of characters and roles to send to the audience who have always trusted and loved me.
