Record holder attends 5 consecutive international sports events
Nguyen Anh Minh has been officially registered by the Vietnamese golf team as one of the 6 players to participate in ASIAD 20 in Japan.
Looking at the professional journey, Nguyen Anh Minh is considered a record holder of Vietnamese golf when he has continuously participated in 5 major sports events in the past 4 years.
In 2022, Nguyen Anh Minh participated in the 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31) in Vietnam for the first time. It was the first major international sports event in his career that this Vietnamese golf talent began to participate in.
Following that, Nguyen Anh Minh continued to compete at SEA Games 32 held in 2023 in Cambodia, SEA Games 33 in Thailand in 2025. In addition, Nguyen Anh Minh competed at ASIAD 19 held in 2023 in China. Along with the above 4 tournaments, the upcoming ASIAD 20 will be the next international sports festival that Anh Minh will wear the Vietnamese Golf Team uniform to compete in.
Remember when the SEA Games 33 in Thailand ended last year, Nguyen Anh Minh carefully discussed his expertise: "The results of competition at SEA Games 33 did not necessarily give me satisfaction. I will improve my expertise more. Next year, I will focus on having the opportunity to continue participating in ASIAD 20 in Japan." Before determining the 6 official players who will compete in ASIAD 20 (3 male athletes, 3 female athletes), the Vietnamese golf team publicly announced the selection criteria. Nguyen Anh Minh received a convincing ASIAD 20 spot with stable performance and always maintained his position in the Top 30 best amateur male golfers in the world.
At ASIAD 19, Nguyen Anh Minh took the field at the age of 16. This golfer is one of the youngest members of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation of the Games. At the end of ASIAD 19, Nguyen Anh Minh ranked T30 overall in the men's individual standings.
Growing up from experience in the US
In the past two years (2025, 2026), Nguyen Anh Minh has achieved many positive international competition achievements. This clearly reflects when Vietnamese golf talent officially studied in the US and then focused on competing in tournaments with the Oregon University Golf Team. Nguyen Anh Minh once shared: "Being able to compete in the golf environment at university-level tournaments in the US helps me strengthen my expertise. I myself learn more about preparation, improve skills to be ready for my future professional golf journey.
The coaching staff of the Vietnamese golf team assessed that the ASIAD arena is a challenge for Nguyen Anh Minh and the Vietnamese golf team. Because, the Golf Regulations allow golfers who have competed professionally to register to participate. This means that golfers who are at the amateur level must try very hard if they want to realize their ability to win medals.
Previously, Vietnamese golf only dreamed of having the opportunity to win medals at the SEA Games arena. However, since the Vietnamese golf team won 1 individual Gold Medal (Le Khanh Hung), 1 team Silver Medal (Le Khanh Hung, Nguyen Anh Minh, Doan Uy) and 1 individual Bronze Medal (Nguyen Anh Minh) at SEA Games 32, managers have changed their approach. That is, Vietnamese golf has factors like Nguyen Anh Minh and many high-level young athletes, so we are confident in preparing professionally to conquer SEA Games medal achievements. At SEA Games 33, the Vietnamese golf team continued to win 1 Silver Medal, 2 Bronze Medals (in which, Nguyen Anh Minh won a Men's Individual Silver Medal).
Now, Nguyen Anh Minh is receiving the most guaranteed preparation and determination to conquer ASIAD 20. Growing up after 3 years from ASIAD 19, Nguyen Anh Minh is receiving the opportunity to compete to do well in his profession in Japan this time.
Ending the 2025 - 2026 season at the University Sports Competition system in the US, Nguyen Anh Minh received evaluations from golf experts in the University system in the US as one of the best-performing golfers, the most worth watching. This is a professional fulcrum for this 19-year-old golfer to focus and be ready to compete in ASIAD 20.
As of before participating in ASIAD 20, in 2026 alone, Nguyen Anh Minh has participated in 11 tournaments at different levels in the US. The most recent tournament Nguyen Anh Minh participated in was the All-American Amateur Championship - U.S. Amateur Championship 2026. The golfer was awarded a wildcard by the organizers to participate in the competition. At the end of the tournament, Nguyen Anh Minh ranked 116th overall. At ASIAD 20, Nguyen Anh Minh will have coach Thai Duong accompanying him in the coaching staff of the Vietnamese Golf Team to direct the competition.
