Roles that are psychologically heavy are more attractive
From 2024 to 2025, artist Tuyet Thu has been active quite prominently in both stage and film. How did you maintain this passion for art when you were exhausted with art?
- I have always maintained my passion, not change in the past, present and future. In addition to work, I have a family. I always arrange well for both. When my child was young, I spent more time with my family. At the same time, I still participate in stage and film with a lighter density.
For example, if you only participate in one film a year, on stage, you perform on weekends. When my child sleeps, I will watch movies, or occasionally give my child to my husband to go see plays, follow the activities of friends and colleagues so as not to forget my job. As my children grow up and know how to take care of themselves, my work density will gradually increase.
Currently, the two children are grown up and take care of themselves and their studies, so I am more comfortable with work.
Although not playing the main role, some roles she participated in left an impression, most recently "The Billion Dollar Kiss". Is cinema for artist Tuyet Thu more difficult than drama or TV series?
- For me, cinema, drama or TV series are all the same. With my characters, no matter the field, I take good care and prepare carefully. It can be said that cinema is more difficult because it is fate, the opportunity for actors to come to the big screen, because there are not many Vietnamese films and there is a large investment, so choosing actors for films by directors and producers also requires high and many accompanying factors.
Previously, artist Tuyet Thu returned with "The Night of the Howling Northwest" which attracted great attention. To play a heavy psychological role, is there a challenge for you?
- The challenge sounds so heavy and intense! Although I had played the role of a mother in "The Night of the Howling Northwest" by Le Thien's mother before, I was not able to watch the adaptation of her role. However, when I was offered this role, I happily accepted it. The first thing I care about is whether the script and roles are interesting or not, whether there is land to exploit?
The more psychologically heavy roles are, the more they attract me. It was a trip into the lives and fates of others that made me struggle, think, and move my brain more to find new and strange things. That is what makes me even more excited and happy when my role is successful, supported by the audience and colleagues.

Throughout many years of tireless artistic activities, the audience has seen artist Tuyet Thu always work quietly, not noisy, and quiet. But if I say you are bland, is that correct?
- What is a lack of profit? Is it personality, role, way of expression? I think if I had my roles, I would have asked for answers from the audience and colleagues, those would have been the most accurate answers. As for my personality and personality, "it's not bland at all". I am always sincere, cheerful, and sociable with everyone.
friends, colleagues, and even fans often say I am "salted". For me, life has many things around me: sadness, joy, anger, surprise, success, failure... enough. At my age, I may not have experienced it all or enjoy it all, but I have witnessed and heard many things, so now I just live to do my best.
Among the teachers who guided Meritorious Artist Tuyet Thu to the profession, who do you remember most? Why?
- On the way to my art to today, I thank many people. First are Thanh Nga, My Chau and Dieu Hien, the idols that I love. They have made me passionate and determined to set foot on the path of art.
Ms. Thuy Lan - the homeroom teacher when I studied at the School of Stage Arts 2. I learned from her how to silently do things, focusing all my efforts on work with high results...
Mr. Tran Ngoc Giau once called me to the City Drama Theater (he was the theater director) giving me the opportunity to attend the drama festival at Busan, and then the plays at the theater. He is also the one who chose the role for me in the "sea" play, with a gift of a gold medal in the national stage festival. And many people I feel grateful but can't tell.
What makes Meritorious Artist Tuyet Thu most concerned in her career? A role for life, a film with huge revenue or something else?
- If we say concern is not accurate but rather the desire to perform all kinds of roles.
The bigger wish is that art in general and the national stage in particular will receive the attention and care of leaders at all levels, have investment in infrastructure, and create conditions for artists to freely create. Just look at the art of countries that I long for, when will my country have such a thing?
It is not difficult for Ly Hai to act in a film
In the coming time, Meritorious Artist Tuyet Thu will play "Lat mat 8" by Ly Hai, will casting for this role be difficult for you?
- When coming to "Flip Side 8" by director Ly Hai, I did not encounter any difficulties. As Ly Hai said, "It's not the casting, but you invited me to come and see if I was suitable for the role". And I think when I come to a project, a film or a role, it is also fate. Therefore, when I met the film crew of "Flip Side 8", I felt very comfortable and happy.
Maybe because I myself am suitable for the role and the character that director Ly Hai wanted to find, he and the crew chose me to satisfy my passion for cinema.
What does Meritorious Artist Tuyet Thu expect from her new role in the movie Lat mat 8?
- I just hope that my role will be successful, contributing a small part to the success of "Flip Side 8".
was enough. I do not put too much pressure or steps for myself to overcome. I just think simply, in a role, a film I take on, I will try to do my best so as not to lose the trust of the audience and the film crew.
In the mindset of Meritorious Artist Tuyet Thu, is the title still important to her? For example, the current title you do not have is People's Artist?
- For me, the title is still important because it proves the achievements I have achieved, proves how I strive to get recognition from everyone. As when I was in school, I always strived to achieve the title of excellent student, good grandchild of Uncle Ho... with my own educational ability.
And my efforts are recognized by friends and teachers. When I entered the profession, I also strived, put all my effort into the profession and for each role.

For the current young generation, it is not easy to have a place in the hearts of the audience. Is it really necessary to use tricks for you?
- Everyone clearly sees one thing, success from one's own strength will always be steady and have lasting value. On the contrary, we only focus on the tricks, I think at some point we will lose the trust and love of the audience.
In your opinion, what is the core factor for an artist to " subside" in the public's heart?
- For me personally, it is sincerity, dedication to my profession, dedication to the audience. That is respect for the profession, respect for the audience, respect for colleagues and respect for yourself.
What are Meritorious Artist Tuyet Thu's future plans?
- Currently, I also have invitations from movies and the stage, and plans for my family. My current problem is to arrange time reasonably to allocate and regulate my work to best suit.
