The announcement of the Decision to establish 45 grassroots trade unions is one of the practical activities to celebrate the 97th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam Trade Union (July 28, 1929 – July 28, 2026).
This is also an important milestone in the work of developing union members, building and consolidating trade union organizations in the Capital, continuing to affirm the role of representing, caring for, and protecting the legitimate and lawful rights and interests of workers.
According to the Decision, grassroots trade unions have legal status, are allowed to use their own seals, open accounts at banks and perform tasks and powers according to the provisions of law and the Charter of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour. The Executive Committee of grassroots trade unions is responsible for organizing activities to represent, care for, and protect the legitimate and lawful rights and interests of union members and workers; propagating and mobilizing workers to well implement the Party's guidelines, policies, laws of the State and regulations of agencies, units, and enterprises.
According to Chairman of the Hanoi Labor Federation Nguyen Van Thang, implementing the direction of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and contributing to the effective implementation of Resolution No. 09-NQ/TU dated February 27, 2012 of the Hanoi City Party Committee on strengthening Party building and people's organizations in non-state sector enterprises in Hanoi, the Standing Committee of the City Labor Federation has identified developing union members and establishing grassroots trade unions as one of the key and consistent tasks.
Right from the beginning of 2026, trade union levels in the Capital have proactively surveyed, approached businesses, innovated propaganda methods, mobilized workers to join the Trade Union organization; and at the same time strengthened coordination with Party committees, authorities, state management agencies and employers in the process of establishing grassroots trade unions.
As a result, in July 2026 alone - the month commemorating the 97th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam Trade Union, trade union levels in the Capital have propagated and mobilized the establishment of 566 new grassroots trade unions, admitting 15,600 union members. Since the beginning of the year, the whole City has established 1,381 grassroots trade unions with 53,474 union members.
