At the scientific conference, Mr. Dang Hoang Vu - Head of Quality Management Department, Cho Ray Hospital presented a report on the application of a KPIs-based governance model for the hospital's antibiotic use monitoring program.
Accordingly, the Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) program has been implemented by Cho Ray Hospital since 2009 with many activities such as developing instructions on antibiotic use, monitoring medical records, analyzing microbial data and monitoring drug costs. Thanks to that, the rate of antibiotic use compliance at the hospital reached over 97%, and antibiotic costs decreased significantly.
However, the program is still mainly based on professional supervision, and there is no standardized efficiency assessment system. This poses a requirement to switch to a quality management model based on data and specific measurement indicators.
From the above reality, the research group has proposed the KPIs index framework to improve the efficiency of antibiotic management and use. The index framework is built based on recommendations from international organizations and practice at specialized hospitals, including 5 main groups: management organization, antibiotic use procedures, drug dosage, clinical outcomes and economic efficiency.
Specific indicators proposed include the rate of sampling of specimens before antibiotic use, level of compliance with treatment guidelines, DOT and LOT indicators, hospital infection rate, multidrug-resistant bacterial status and cost of antibiotic use.
According to Mr. Dang Hoang Vu, the implementation of the KPIs system not only helps standardize antibiotic management and use activities but also contributes to improving treatment quality, controlling drug resistance and optimizing costs. This is also considered an important foundation for Cho Ray Hospital to develop an antibiotic management and use program in the direction of data management and regional network connection in the coming time.
That is just one of 419 scientific reports, focusing on many specialized fields such as internal medicine, surgery, emergency resuscitation, cardiology, oncology, diagnostic imaging, nursing and medical management.
Specialist Doctor 2 Pham Thanh Viet - Deputy Director, in charge of Management and Operation of Cho Ray Hospital said that in the context of rapidly developing world medicine, especially the explosion of molecular biology, image technology, artificial intelligence and digital transformation, the organization of scientific conferences is of great significance to update knowledge, share experiences and promote professional cooperation.
According to hospital leaders, this year's conference with the participation of international experts from Cambodia, China, France, the United States and many leading professors and scientists in the country.
Speaking to direct the conference, Mr. Do Xuan Tuyen - Deputy Minister of Health of Vietnam emphasized the role of science and technology, innovation and digital transformation in improving the quality of medical examination and treatment.
According to Deputy Minister Do Xuan Tuyen, the health sector needs to promote the application of artificial intelligence, build a large database, and strengthen connections between medical facilities to improve treatment efficiency. In addition, it is necessary to focus on training high-quality human resources, especially young staff capable of international integration and mastering new technologies.
