Vietnam's food industry is strongly shifting to competition by quality, technology and safety standards.

In the context of the rapidly changing food and beverage market, businesses are no longer just racing for output or selling price, but are increasingly focusing on investing in product quality, processing technology and food safety standards. This is considered a core factor in improving competitiveness and expanding the international market.

On May 13, at the opening ceremony of the International Exhibition of Specialized Materials, Fragrances, Food & Beverage Additives in Vietnam - Fi Vietnam 2026, Ms. Ly Kim Chi - Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City Food and Food Association said that the food industry is entering a new competitive phase, where raw materials and product formulas become the foundation that determines business value. Technology innovation, flavor improvement, quality improvement and cost optimization will be key for Vietnamese products to increase competitiveness.

Ms. Ly Kim Chi believes that connection activities, trade promotion and international experience sharing play an important role in supporting businesses to access new market trends. This is also an opportunity for domestic businesses to learn from international partners, thereby improving product quality, towards sustainable export goals and improving food safety standards.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Food Association, Vietnam's food industry is facing many opportunities as global consumption demand is increasingly prioritizing safe products with high nutritional value and health-friendly. This requires businesses to continuously innovate and invest in researching formulas, raw materials and modern production solutions.

Sharing the same view, Ms. Pham Khanh Phong Lan - Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety - said that the food and beverage industry of Ho Chi Minh City has made significant progress in recent times thanks to the companionship of the government and the business community.

According to Ms. Lan, business connection and trade promotion activities not only help businesses introduce new technologies and products but also expand international cooperation and improve the competitiveness of Vietnam's food industry.

Notably, in the current consumption trend, food safety is no longer simply a mandatory requirement but has become a factor in building trust and sustainable value for businesses. Therefore, along with technological innovation, compliance with safety standards is increasingly considered a prerequisite for long-term business development.

Leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety affirmed that the management agency will continue to accompany businesses in completing standards, creating favorable conditions for production and business activities, and at the same time protecting public health.

Experts believe that when combining advanced technology, product innovation and high safety standards, Vietnam's food industry will have more opportunities to enhance value, expand markets and increase its position on the global food map.
