These days, when walking on the streets of Sa Dec Flower Village (Sa Dec City, Dong Thap Province), it is not difficult to see the bustling atmosphere of buying and selling at almost any time, especially in the morning. Known as the largest flower capital in the Western region, Sa Dec Flower Village has always played an important role in supplying flowers to the market over the years, especially during the Lunar New Year.
Without stopping to wrap lotus flowers for customers, Ms. Le Thi Tu (Sa Dec City) said that the soaring purchasing power since the beginning of December has made gardeners and business owners excited and looking forward to a bumper crop.
"In addition to growing water lilies ourselves, my family also buys flowers from small garden owners, on average packing from a few hundred to a thousand baskets each day to serve the people," Ms. Tu added.
Although her business is small, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoang (Sa Dec City) also feels a slight increase in purchasing power at this time, in which customers prioritize choosing mid-range priced flowers, from 50,000 VND.
"The economy is difficult, so we prioritize growing many low-priced flowers, even 10,000 VND, for people to consume and buy as gifts when going on a spring trip," said Ms. Hoang.
Another female gardener shared that she was very happy because at this time, traders had placed all the main chrysanthemums in the garden, leaving only about a hundred small baskets to sell to tourists.
"This year, the weather is not favorable, but the farmers have a lot of experience so it does not greatly affect production. Everyone is relieved because we basically have a full Tet holiday" - the female gardener expressed.
According to a survey, after the 2024 Tet flower market fever, Korean multi-colored raspberry chrysanthemums were prioritized by farmers in Sa Dec Flower Village to be planted with a sharp increase in quantity. Due to the diversity of colors and even round canopy, people expect that this type of flower will continue to be popular during Tet 2025.
In general, farmers have not sold all their products yet so there is no specific price yet, however, most farmers still expect to make a profit. In particular, this year, flowers have a greater chance of going to the Central and Northern regions.
According to the Economic Department of Sa Dec City, as of December 31, 2024, flower growers in the city planted about 100 hectares of various ornamental flowers, supplying the market with more than 1.3 million flower baskets. Of which, the flowers grown in large quantities are chrysanthemums, marigolds, roses, etc. This year, about 80% of the flowers were deposited by traders.
In addition to flowers, gardeners also supply ornamental plants, such as kumquats, fruit trees, ornamental grapes and some other types of plants...
Up to this point, the price of ornamental flowers in Sa Dec has not increased or decreased dramatically compared to last year. In the middle months of the year, the consumption market was quite slow, however, at the end of the year, purchasing power changed positively.
