On May 21, Lao Cai Provincial Police said that Muong Khuong Commune Police had just promptly discovered and prevented a case of a student showing signs of being lured to drop out of school to work abroad.
Previously, on May 20, Muong Khuong Commune Police received a request for coordination from Ta Gia Khau - Pha Long Ethnic Minority Boarding Primary and Secondary School regarding a female student showing signs of dropping out of school to work as a hired laborer.
Immediately after receiving the information, the commune police force quickly verified and coordinated to bring P.T. S (born 2012, residing in Vu Xa village, Pha Long commune) and T.T. P (born 2009, residing in Choan Van village, Muong Khuong commune) to the headquarters to work when both were moving on a passenger car to Bac Ninh to work as hired laborers.

The two children were then taken to the commune police headquarters to work, stabilize their psychology and conduct propaganda and education.
At the police station, P.T. S said that because she was often scolded by her father, she developed a psychological depression and wanted to drop out of school. During the process of getting acquainted and having feelings for T.T. P, she was invited to go to Bac Ninh to work as a hired laborer.
Through working, the Muong Khuong Commune Police force explained to the children clearly the provisions of law related to working age; and analyzed the consequences and potential risks of voluntarily dropping out of school, leaving the locality to work as hired laborers when they were not old enough and lacking family management.
In particular, functional forces also warn about the methods and tricks of fraud and human trafficking through social networks and the internet - a form that is trending towards teenagers and highland students with the trick of "light work, high salary".
After being propagated and explained, both students realized their impulsive and thoughtless actions and committed to continue returning to school, not voluntarily dropping out of school or leaving the locality in the near future.
According to Lao Cai Provincial Police, the incident shows the spirit of responsibility and proactiveness of Muong Khuong Commune Police in grasping the situation at the grassroots level, managing youth, as well as closely coordinating with schools to promptly detect and prevent risks affecting students.
Through the incident, the Police force recommends that parents need to pay attention, be close, and regularly listen to their children's thoughts and feelings to promptly share and guide them.
Families also need to strengthen coordination with schools and functional forces in managing and educating students, especially in highland areas and ethnic minority areas.
For students, it is necessary to raise their vigilance against invitations to work as hired laborers through social networks, not to believe in information "light work, high salary", and avoid becoming victims of fraud, human trafficking or labor exploitation.
