On June 18, Quang Tri Provincial Police said that they are drastically implementing solutions to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, in order to contribute to the whole country removing the "yellow card" warning of the European Commission (EC).
Over the past time, the Provincial Police force has strengthened the grasp of the situation, promptly detected and strictly handled violations in the field of seafood exploitation, especially acts related to vessel monitoring devices.
Recently, the Economic Security Department of the Provincial Police presided over and coordinated with Gianh Port Border Guard Station, the Provincial Fisheries and Fisheries Surveillance Sub-Department, Bac Gianh Ward Police and Bac Gianh Ward People's Committee to detect fishing vessel numbered QB-984xx-TS showing signs of violating the law in fishing activities.
Through verification, the ship owner cum captain is Mr. N.V.T (born 1986, residing in Tan My residential group, Bac Gianh ward, Quang Tri province), who controlled a fishing vessel 15.1m long, with a capacity of 420 CV, and committed acts of violating regulations on seafood exploitation.
At the police station, Mr. T admitted to arbitrarily removing the journey monitoring device, not bringing the device when fishing, and not carrying out reporting procedures when ships enter and exit Gianh port according to legal regulations.
The Economic Security Department of Quang Tri Provincial Police issued a decision to sanction administrative violations against Mr. N.V.T with a total fine of 160 million VND. The violator has complied with the sanctioning decision.
According to functional forces, strict handling of the above case is a warning to ship owners and captains in complying with legal regulations on seafood exploitation.
Quang Tri Provincial Police recommends that fishermen raise awareness of law compliance, absolutely do not remove or disable vessel monitoring devices or carry out illegal fishing activities. All violations will be strictly handled, contributing to the whole country to soon remove the EC's "yellow card" warning, protecting the reputation of Vietnam's seafood industry.
