Gender equality creates positive changes in ethnic minority areas of Quang Tri

NGUYỄN LUÂN |

Quang Tri - Gender equality is gradually creating clear changes in many ethnic minority areas through communication activities.

In the first 6 months of 2026, the Quang Tri Provincial Women's Union continues to implement many practical activities to achieve gender equality goals and solve urgent problems for women and children, especially in mountainous areas and ethnic minority areas.

Closely following the policy of the Central Vietnam Women's Union and national target programs, the Provincial Women's Union focuses on innovating the content and methods of propaganda, strongly orienting activities to the grassroots level, contributing to raising awareness of officials, members and the community about the role of women in the family and society.

One of the highlights is the organization of three specialized communication campaigns on gender equality, prevention of domestic violence and gender-based violence in Hoan Lao, Tan My and Dien Sanh communes. The activities are built in a direction that is close, easy to access, suitable for each target group, contributing to changing awareness and behavior in the community.

In parallel with that, the Associations at all levels have integrated and organized 520 propaganda sessions on the Party's guidelines, the State's policies and laws related to women and children; regulations on gender equality, prevention of domestic violence, protection of women and children; specialized topics on promoting the role of women in the new era. The activities have attracted more than 37,000 members and women to participate.

Not only stopping at propaganda work, the Association also focuses on equipping women with skills to confidently participate in social life. In the first 6 months of the year, 580 women participated in training classes on gender equality, gender-based violence prevention and skills to participate in community activities, thereby contributing to enhancing the position of women in the family as well as in society.

Notably, the implementation of the Project "Gender equality and empowerment for women and girls of ethnic minorities in Quang Tri" continues to bring many positive results. The Provincial Women's Union has organized 9 training classes on the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in communication for 225 teachers, contributing to innovating the method of communication about gender equality in schools.

In addition, 2 training classes on skills to support learning experiences and reproductive health care for adolescents were organized for 52 medical staff, teachers and Association staff, creating a foundation to improve the quality of counseling and support for girls at the grassroots level.

Paying attention to developing skills for teenagers is also emphasized. The Association has organized 9 career orientation classes for 180 girls who are members of the "Change Leaders" Club; opened 10 life skills classes for 350 young women; and at the same time organized 5 training classes on finding job information and safe migration skills for young women aged 16 to 24.

Communication activities are implemented with many creative forms, putting youth at the center. Among them are 9 communication events led by children at school; 5 career orientation events attracting more than 1,000 youth to participate; a communication event on cyberspace safety in La Lay commune. The Association also supported 26 communication initiatives and activities guidance for CoC Clubs at 9 secondary schools in the project area.

Through a series of synchronous activities from propaganda, training to skill support, the Project is contributing to creating a favorable environment for women and girls in ethnic minority areas to promote their abilities, confidently study, develop themselves and actively participate in community activities. This is also an important foundation to gradually narrow the gender gap, promote gender equality and sustainable development in mountainous localities of Quang Tri province.
