Also attending the Congress were Ms. Pham Thi Thanh Tra, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister, Chairwoman of the National Committee for the Elderly of Vietnam; along with leaders and former leaders of the Party, State, Vietnam Fatherland Front, socio-political organizations; 475 outstanding delegates representing nearly 17 million cadres and members of the elderly association nationwide.
The elderly are an important resource for national development
Speaking at the solemn opening session, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh - Chairman of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly said that in the past term, in the context of many difficulties and challenges, the Associations of the Elderly at all levels across the country have made efforts to innovate the content and methods of operation, achieving many important and comprehensive results.
Vietnamese elderly people always uphold revolutionary will, patriotism, actively participate in economic development, building new rural areas, protecting the environment, maintaining security and order, educating children and grandchildren...
Promoting the 85-year tradition of the Vietnamese Elderly, with determination and aspiration, cadres, members, and elderly people nationwide confidently step into the new term 2026-2031; upholding the spirit of "Old Age - Bright Example" building a comprehensively strong Association organization, the core in the work of protecting, caring for and promoting the role of the elderly, developing a "silver economy"; contributing to the successful implementation of the Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress, Resolution of the 7th Vietnamese Elderly Congress; continuing to glorify the "Dien Hong spirit" contributing to bringing the country into a new era of peace, independence, democracy, prosperity, prosperity, civilization, happiness, firmly moving towards socialism," Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh emphasized.
Strongly promote the spirit of "old age - bright example
Speaking to direct the Congress, Ms. Bui Thi Minh Hoai, Member of the Politburo, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Fatherland Front, Central Agencies, Chairwoman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, emphasized that in the context of the country entering a new era of development, the work of the elderly needs to be viewed with a new mindset and long-term vision. The elderly are not only a subject of care but also need to be facilitated to continue to contribute to their families, communities and the country.
According to Ms. Bui Thi Minh Hoai, during his lifetime, President Ho Chi Minh always respected and placed his trust in the elderly. In recent years, the work of the elderly has received attention from the Party, State, levels, and sectors.
In the 2021-2026 term, the Vietnam Association of the Elderly achieved many results in various fields: 100% of elderly people who are beneficiaries have access to and enjoy social protection policies; every year, the government and the Association of the Elderly at all levels organize longevity celebrations for more than 1.2 million elderly people; more than 90,000 elderly clubs operate in many fields, attracting millions of members...
Chairwoman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Bui Thi Minh Hoai clearly stated that the work of the elderly in the new term needs to be placed in the overall strategy for national development. The Vietnam Association of the Elderly needs to continue to thoroughly grasp and effectively implement the resolutions, directives, and conclusions of the Party, and the State's policies on the elderly; and at the same time proactively research theory, summarize practice, and advise on perfecting policies suitable for the population aging process.
Chairwoman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Bui Thi Minh Hoai expressed her belief that, with their bravery, intelligence, experience and prestige, generations of Vietnamese elderly people will continue to strongly promote the spirit of "old age - bright example" in the new development stage of the country, together with the entire Party, people, and army to successfully realize the aspiration to develop a prosperous, civilized, and happy country.
At the Congress, delegates elected members of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly, term VII, including 85 comrades; elected members of the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly, term VII, including 13 comrades. Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh was re-elected as Chairman of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly, term VII.
The VII National Congress of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly, term 2026 – 2031, identified 3 breakthrough stages including: Advising on the development of the "silver economy" in Vietnam, coordinating advising and proposing policies, laws, and social security related to the elderly; Promoting socialization, strengthening resource mobilization to implement the activities of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly; Innovating operating methods, digital transformation, and applying information technology in the Association's work.
