The Congress had nearly 600 delegates attending, including 471 official delegates and 110 guest delegates. This is an important political event, opening a new term with the requirement to continue to innovate, enhance the position and strongly promote the resources of the elderly.
Innovating awareness of the role of the elderly
Providing information on the preparation for the Congress, Chairman of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly Nguyen Thanh Binh said that in the past term, the Association has always received the attention and encouragement of Party and State leaders and the Vietnam Fatherland Front.
The work of building the Congress documents was carried out meticulously, and widespread opinions were collected from localities and levels of Associations. Up to now, the system of documents is basically completed, creating a basis for the Congress to take place on schedule.
Referring to the development orientation of the Association in the new term, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh emphasized the requirement to continue to innovate awareness of the role of the elderly.
Accordingly, the elderly are not only subjects who need to be protected and cared for, but also an important resource of society, with experience, knowledge, prestige and the ability to continue to contribute to the country.
Towards developing a "silver economy
The 2026-2031 term is of particular importance to the Vietnam Association of the Elderly in the context of population aging, which is increasingly deeply impacting socio-economic life.
The requirement is not only to perform well the task of protecting and caring for the elderly, but also to create a strong change in promoting the role of the elderly, turning the experience, intelligence, prestige and ability to work and contribute of the elderly into resources for development.
One of the orientations that the Association is interested in is building an action program on developing the "silver economy", in order to better exploit the potential of the elderly, while meeting the new requirements of an aging society.
Promoting the 85-year tradition of Vietnamese elderly people, officials, members and elderly people nationwide expect the VII Congress to issue practical decisions, creating new developments for the Association organization and elderly people's work; continue to spread the spirit of "Old Age - Bright Example", build a strong Association organization, contributing to the successful implementation of the Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress.
In two days, September 15-16, the Congress will assess the journey of the 2021-2026 term, discuss and agree on directions and tasks for the 2026-2031 term and identify breakthrough solutions to meet the requirements of elderly people's work in the new period.
