Promoting farmers' internal strength, building a high-value agriculture
Speaking at the 9th National Congress of the Vietnam Farmers' Union on the afternoon of June 7, Mr. Truong Van Tung - Chairman of the Lam Dong Provincial Farmers' Union said that Lam Dong province, after expanding its development space, has an area of more than 24,233 km2, the largest in the country, with a population of nearly 3.9 million people.
The locality converges many advantages in high-tech agriculture, marine economy, renewable energy, logistics, agricultural product processing and tourism.
According to Mr. Tung, in the context of the province aiming for double-digit economic growth in the 2026-2030 period, agriculture continues to play an important pillar role in the economy. Key industries such as coffee, vegetables, flowers, tea, fruit trees, seafood, animal husbandry and agricultural product processing are expected to expand in scale, improve competitiveness and create new growth momentum.

From that reality, Farmers' Associations at all levels in the province have promoted the movement "Farmers emulate in good production and business, unite to help each other get rich and reduce poverty sustainably", considering this as a key action movement to arouse the spirit of self-reliance and self-strengthening of farmer members.
Many farmers have boldly converted crop and livestock structures, applied science and technology, high technology to production, and gradually participated in the value chain from production to consumption.
After the merger process, the movement has more conditions to develop in the direction of regional linkage, expanding production scale and closely linking with domestic and export market demand.
The results achieved show the strong spread of the movement. Every year, the whole province has over 150,000 households registered to participate, nearly 100,000 households achieve the title of good farmers in production and business at all levels, accounting for about 30% of the total number of agricultural production households.
To create resources for farmers to develop production, Farmers' Associations at all levels have received entrustment and credit of nearly 10,000 billion VND from banks; The province's Farmers' Support Fund reached over 200 billion VND. These resources have supported more than 82,000 farming households to borrow capital for economic development and production expansion.
In parallel, scientific and technical transfer work is being implemented regularly, contributing to bringing the province's high-tech agricultural production area to over 107,300 ha; 1,200 ha of smart agriculture and about 143,000 ha of production according to safe and organic standards.
Promoting digital transformation
One of the highlights that Mr. Truong Van Tung especially emphasized is the role of digital transformation in modern agricultural development.
Accordingly, the Provincial Farmers' Association has proactively introduced digital transformation content into the movement of good production and business; supported thousands of farming households to open accounts on e-commerce platforms and tens of thousands of members to use the digital platform "Vietnamese Farmers".
Many models of "Smart Farmers", "Digital Farmers" have initially been effective. Production households boldly apply automatic irrigation systems, production management software, electronic logbooks, surveillance cameras, QR codes for traceability and bring products to e-commerce platforms to access a wider market.
According to the Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Lam Dong province, currently the effectiveness of the good production and business movement is not only assessed by income but also through the application of VietGAP, GlobalGAP, organic standards and sustainable development criteria.
However, he also frankly acknowledged some shortcomings such as the uneven rate of collective economic participation between regions; the limited access to digital technology of a part of farmers; the value chain linkage is not really close; agricultural product brands are not commensurate with their potential.
He also proposed that the Central Government continue to improve mechanisms and policies to support high-tech agriculture, green agriculture and circular economy; increase capital from the Farmers Support Fund; strengthen training for cooperative officials and promote the "4 houses" linkage between the State, farmers, scientists and businesses.
The movement of farmers producing and doing good business associated with collective economic development, digital transformation and green agriculture is an inevitable trend, an urgent requirement for farmer members to strive to get rich legitimately, contributing to the sustainable, civilized, and modern development of agriculture and rural areas," Mr. Truong Van Tung affirmed.
