Currently, the overseas Vietnamese community continues to develop with 6.5 million people living in more than 130 countries and territories, of which over 80% are in developed countries. The overseas Vietnamese community is increasingly deeply integrated into the society of host countries, having a more solid position, contributing to expanding the political and cultural influence of Vietnam.
In Korea, the Vietnamese community is one of the largest foreign communities and also the largest Vietnamese community in Northeast Asia. The number of Vietnamese people has increased rapidly in the past 20 years, along with the strong development of Vietnam-Korea relations, especially since the two countries upgraded to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The community is widely distributed throughout localities, concentrated in Seoul, Gyeonggi, Incheon, Busan, Daegu, Gwangju... with an increasingly diverse and stable structure compared to the initial stage.
Dr. Tran Hai Linh - Member of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Chairman of the Vietnam - Korea Business and Investment Association (VKBIA), Founding Chairman of the Vietnam - Korea Experts - Intellectuals Association (VKEIA) expressed that in recent years, the Party, State and Vietnam Fatherland Front have always paid very consistent and increasingly substantive attention to the Vietnamese community abroad, including the Vietnamese community in Korea.
It can be said that this is a clear transition from the "management" mindset to the "accompanying - promoting resources" mindset, considering overseas Vietnamese as an inseparable part of the Vietnamese ethnic community," said Dr. Tran Hai Linh.
For the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Dr. Tran Hai Linh highly appreciates the increasingly clear role in connecting, gathering, listening to and reflecting the voices of overseas Vietnamese.
Inviting overseas Vietnamese representatives to participate in working delegations, policy seminars, contribute opinions to Party Congress documents, as well as the structure of members of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front who are overseas Vietnamese, shows confidence and desire to engage overseas Vietnamese in major issues of the country in a more substantive way," Dr. Tran Hai Linh shared.

Dr. Tran Hai Linh said that the concern of the Party, State and Front is not only limited to policies, but is increasingly concretized by actions, mechanisms and participation space. This creates confidence and motivation for the Vietnamese community in Korea to feel secure in integrating, developing and at the same time being attached and contributing more to their homeland in the new development stage of the country.
According to Dr. Tran Hai Linh, what is noteworthy is that the mindset of approaching the Vietnamese community abroad has changed significantly. The Front not only considers overseas Vietnamese as the object of mobilization, but increasingly considers overseas Vietnamese as participants, as an organic part of the great national unity bloc. The expansion of the mechanism for overseas Vietnamese representatives to participate in the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, participate in contributing opinions to Party Congress documents, major policies of the country, shows very clear political trust and spirit of companionship.
In addition, the content of mobilizing and gathering overseas Vietnamese has gone deeper, associated with the needs and characteristics of each community. For Vietnamese people abroad in general and in Korea in particular, the Fatherland Front has coordinated with ministries, branches, localities and representative agencies to promote activities that are both community-connecting and aroused responsibility and aspiration to contribute such as: honoring intellectuals and overseas Vietnamese entrepreneurs; connecting resources for science - technology, education, investment; spreading culture and Vietnamese in the young generation.
In addition, the bridge role of the Front between overseas Vietnamese and the Party and State is increasingly clear. Through contact conferences, dialogue forums, and channels to reflect opinions and recommendations of overseas Vietnamese are summarized and conveyed to functional agencies, contributing to perfecting policies in a more practical direction. This helps strengthen trust and create a feeling of "being listened to and respected" in the community of overseas Vietnamese.
It can be affirmed that the Vietnam Fatherland Front has been and is playing a core role in consolidating the great national unity bloc, in which the Vietnamese community abroad is increasingly placed in a worthy position. This is an important foundation for overseas Vietnamese to continue to accompany the country in the new development stage, towards the goal of a rich people, a strong country, democracy, fairness, and civilization," said Dr. Nguyen Hai Linh.
Recently, at the meeting and honoring event for typical overseas Vietnamese collectives and individuals in 2025, Ms. Bui Thi Minh Hoai - Member of the Politburo, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Fatherland Front, Central mass organizations, Chairwoman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front affirmed that our Party and State always pay special attention and care to our compatriots abroad; the Party and State's policy consistently affirms that "The overseas Vietnamese community is a flesh and blood, inseparable, and an important resource of the Vietnamese national community".
Regarding the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Ms. Bui Thi Minh Hoai affirmed that through the periods, the Front has always given special affection and respect to the role, voice and valuable contributions of our overseas Vietnamese. The Vietnam Fatherland Front, in its role as a representative, protecting the legitimate and lawful rights and interests of the people, gathering and promoting the strength of great national unity, has chaired many meetings, exchanged information, and grasped the thoughts and aspirations of Vietnamese people at home and abroad.
