Traditional costumes connect 50 years of Vietnam - Thailand friendship

The "Joint Friendship" exhibition introduces the quintessence of costumes and traditional weaving of Vietnam and Thailand.

Honoring the "vivid links

On August 6, at the Vietnam Women's Museum, the Embassy of the Kingdom of Thailand in Hanoi jointly organized the opening of the exhibition "Joining Hands for Friendship: Honoring 50 Years of Diplomatic Relations between Thailand and Vietnam".

The event takes place on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Thailand (August 6, 1976 - August 6, 2026).

Attending the opening ceremony were Mr. Sophon Zaram - Chairman of the National Assembly cum Chairman of the Thai House of Representatives; Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh - Member of the Party Central Committee (CPC), Vice Chairman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; Ms. Ha Thi Nga - Member of the Party Central Committee, Vice Chairman - Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF); Ms. Le Thi Thuy - Member of the Party Central Committee, Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the VFF, President of the Vietnam Women's Union (VWU).

Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Urawadee Srihirowanya - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Thailand to Vietnam - said that the exhibition is a space to honor the "viving bonds" between the people of the two countries through national costume heritage.

The products on display not only show the identity and artistic quintessence of Vietnam and Thailand but also reflect the ingenuity and dedication of artisans, most of whom are women.

The exhibition also honors Empress Dowager Sirikit - who contributed to reviving textile culture and creating 8 traditional costumes for Thai women. Thai traditional costumes, or "Chud Thai", have been nominated by the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand to be included in UNESCO's List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2026.

People-to-people exchange is a sustainable foundation

Ms. Ha Thi Nga affirmed that the friendship between the people of the two countries is a solid foundation and a source of strength to nurture increasingly substantive Vietnam-Thailand relations.

Over 50 years, cooperation between the two countries has achieved many results on the Party, State, National Assembly, people-to-people, local and business exchange channels. Upgrading relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership opens a new stage of development with a long-term vision.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh assessed that the exhibition is a special milestone in the series of activities to celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations. According to her, the image of threads being woven into a solid fabric is a vivid symbol of the process of cultivating relations between the two countries from political trust, companionship between the government, parliament and the feelings of the people.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Sophon Zaram emphasized that Vietnam-Thailand relations have developed beyond the framework of normal neighborly cooperation, becoming a sustainable relationship based on respect, trust and common commitment to peace and prosperity.

The two countries are coordinating in drug prevention, cyber security, transnational crime prevention; promoting parliamentary, economic and transportation cooperation. The two sides aim to increase bilateral trade turnover to 25 billion USD.

The exhibition takes place from December 6 - 8. 2026, at the Vietnam Women's Museum, contributing to spreading cultural values and strengthening understanding between the people of the two countries.
