At about 7:30 am on June 4, a decade-old phoenix tree in the yard of Quang Trung Secondary School (Ward 2, Bao Loc, Lam Dong) suddenly uprooted and fell into the schoolyard area, where many students are often concentrated.

At the time of the incident, students were on summer vacation, so there were only security guards and some teachers in the school to handle work.
Some students who came to play sports were also far from the fallen tree area.
According to the school representative, the phoenix tree was planted to create shade and previously still grew normally.
However, after inspection after falling, the base and trunk of the tree were rotten inside, losing its ability to connect.

Mr. Truong Minh Thang - Principal of Quang Trung Secondary School - said that in addition to the newly uprooted tree, there are 3 other ancient phoenix trees in the school grounds.
The school is reporting to the People's Committee of Ward 2 Bao Loc to inspect and evaluate the green tree system, ensuring safety for teachers and students in the coming school year.
Representatives of Bao Loc Ward 2 People's Committee said that they will direct functional units to review the green tree system at schools in the area, and promptly handle trees at risk of unsafety.
Previously, in mid-October 2025, an ancient phoenix tree at Nguyen Trai Elementary School, located next to Quang Trung Secondary School, was also uprooted in the schoolyard. At the time of the incident, students had just finished recess, so there were no casualties.
