3.1-degree earthquake in Kon Tum in the early morning

In the early morning of March 31, Kon Plong district, Kon Tum province recorded three consecutive earthquakes in less than an hour.

According to the Center for Earthquake and Storm Warning Newspaper - Institute of Earth Sciences, the first earthquake occurred at 4:08 am and 42 seconds (Hanoi time) with a magnitude of 3.1, located at 14.847 degrees North latitude, 108.282 degrees East longitude, with a focal depth of about 8.1 km.

Just two minutes later, at 04.10, 05 seconds, another earthquake with a magnitude of 3.0 was recorded at 14.849 degrees North latitude, 108.262 degrees East longitude, with similar impact depth.

At 04:46 am and 48 seconds, the third earthquake occurred with a magnitude of 2.6, coordinates 14.852 degrees North latitude, 108.291 degrees East longitude, with a focal depth of 8.1 km.

Previously, at 16:38 on March 30, this area also recorded a strong earthquake of 3.3 degrees, with a focal depth of about 8.2 km.

All of the above earthquakes are assessed to have a natural disaster risk level 0. The Center for Earthquake and Storm Warning Newspapers - Institute of Earth Sciences is continuing to monitor the situation.

Kon Plong district is an area that has often recorded earthquakes in recent years. From April 2021 to now, hundreds of earthquakes have occurred here, including those that caused widespread vibrations. The two biggest earthquakes ever recorded were the 5.0 match at noon on July 28, 2024 and the 4.7 match on August 23, 2022.
