In recent days, in the area of Hue city, the South Central Coast and the South, moderate to heavy rain has occurred on a large scale, with very heavy rain in some places.
On the afternoon of September 22, Mr. Do Tien Vinh, from the Weather Forecast Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, said that heavy rain is forecast to continue to occur in these areas from now until about September 24.
The focus of heavy rain is concentrated in the area from Hue city to Da Nang city and the eastern provinces from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak will have heavy to very heavy rain with common rainfall of 60 - 130mm/24 hours, locally over 250mm/24 hours" - Mr. Vinh said.
According to Mr. Tien Vinh, the provinces of Quang Tri, Khanh Hoa, Lam Dong and the Southern region also have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall from 30 - 80mm/24 hours, locally very heavy rain over 150mm/24 hours.
From the night of September 24 to September 25, the heavy rain area tends to gradually shift to the North. Moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, locally very heavy rain also occurs in the area from Ha Tinh to Da Nang city with common rainfall of 40 - 70mm, locally very heavy rain over 100mm" - Mr. Vinh analyzed.
Other places in the Central region and the Southern region will have rain, moderate rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall from 20 - 40mm, locally heavy rain over 80mm.
Heavy rain is likely to cause flooding in low-lying areas, urban and industrial areas; flash floods on small rivers and streams, landslides on slopes.
Regarding the hydrological situation, currently, the water level of rivers from Hue city to Lam Dong is fluctuating and is still below alarm level 1.
From now (September 22nd) to September 25th, a flood is likely to occur on rivers from Hue city to Lam Dong. During this flood, the peak flood on rivers in Hue city; small streams, upstream of major rivers from Da Nang city to Lam Dong will reach alarm level 1 - alarm level 2; the peak flood downstream of the Vu Gia - Thu Bon, Tra Khuc, Kon - Ha Thanh, Ba, Se San, Srepok rivers will fluctuate above and below alarm level 1.
High risk of flooding in low-lying areas along rivers and urban areas, flash floods and landslides on slopes in provinces/cities from Hue to Lam Dong.
