Currently, the water level of rivers in the Northern region is at a low level and is still below alarm level 1. As of 7:00 AM on July 17, the water level is as follows:
Thao River system: The water level trend is rising, at Yen Bai station it is 26.12m.
Cau River system: The downstream water level trend is decreasing slowly, at Dap Cau station 2.10m.
Thuong River system: The water level trend is decreasing, at Phu Lang Thuong station it is 2.01m.
Da River system: The water level trend is fluctuating, at Hoa Binh station it is 11.81m.
Lo River system: The water level trend is fluctuating, at Tuyen Quang station it is 15.81m.
Lower Red River: The water level trend is changing slowly, at Hanoi station it is 3.86m.
The flow to large lakes in the Northern region fluctuates. Water flow to lakes: Lai Chau from 1,720 - 2,250 m³/s; Son La from 4,600 - 4,910 m³/s; Hoa Binh from 3,900 - 4,000 m³/s; Tuyen Quang from 630 - 750 m³/s; Thac Ba is from 400 - 460 m³/s.
During the day and night of July 17, the areas of Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Lao Cai, Son La still had heavy rain of 40 - 70mm, with some places having heavy rain of over 200mm.
Other areas of the Northern region have common rainfall of 10 - 30mm.
During the period from July 18 to 20, Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Lao Cai, Son La, Tuyen Quang had heavy rain of 70 - 150mm, with some places having heavy rain of over 300mm.
Regarding the hydrological situation, it is forecasted that from July 17 to July 20, a flood will likely occur on rivers in the Northern region, with flood amplitudes rising to rivers from 2 - 4m. During this flood, the peak flood on small rivers, upstream of the Thao and Lo rivers, and the Thai Binh system will reach alarm level 1 - alarm level 2, in some places above alarm level 2. High risk of flash floods and landslides occurring in mountainous and midland provinces; flooding in low-lying riverside areas, urban areas in the Northern region.
