According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, today (December 20), the area from Quang Tri to Da Nang city and the eastern provinces from Quang Ngai to Gia Lai will have rain and showers.
The area from Quang Tri to Da Nang city, the east of the provinces from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak on the night of December 20 and December 21, is forecast to have rain, locally moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall from 10 - 30mm, locally heavy rain over 70mm.
During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind. Localized heavy rains are likely to cause flash floods on small rivers and streams, landslides on steep slopes and flooding in low-lying areas.
Regarding the sea weather, the northeastern sea area of the North East Sea will have strong northeast winds of level 6.
On the night of December 20 and December 21, the North East Sea area (including Hoang Sa special zone) will have winds gradually increasing to level 6-7, gusting to level 8-9, rough seas, waves 3-5 m high. The sea area from Gia Lai to Ca Mau will have winds gradually increasing to level 6, gusting to level 7-8, rough seas, waves 2-4 m high.
The Gulf of Tonkin has northeast winds of level 5, sometimes level 6, gusting to level 7-8, rough seas, waves 2-3 m high.
On December 21, the central East Sea area will have winds gradually increasing to level 6, gusting to level 7-8, rough seas, waves 3-5 m high; the sea area west of the South East Sea area (including the sea area west of Truong Sa area) will have winds gradually increasing to level 6, gusting to level 7-8, rough seas, waves 2.5-3.5 m high.
In addition, on the night of December 20 and December 21, the central and southern East Sea (including Truong Sa special zone) will have scattered showers and thunderstorms; thunderstorms are likely to cause tornadoes and strong gusts of wind.
On the night of December 21 and December 22, the North East Sea area (including Hoang Sa special zone) will have strong northeast winds of level 6-7, gusting to level 8-9, rough seas, waves 3-5 m high.
The sea area from Gia Lai to Ca Mau, the area between the East Sea and the western sea area of the South East Sea (including the western sea area of Truong Sa) will have strong northeast winds of level 6, gusting to level 7-8, rough seas, waves 2-4 m high.
The meteorological agency warns that the level of natural disaster risk at sea is level 2. All ships operating in the above areas are at high risk of being affected by strong winds and large waves.
