According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, currently, in the southern region of China, there is a cold air mass moving towards our country. Currently, the cold air mass has approached the northern border area. Around tonight, this cold air mass will affect the mountainous and midland areas of the Northern region, then affect the western region of the Northern region, and the North Central region.

Mr. Mai Van Khiem, Director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, provided his assessments of this cold air wave.
Sir, please tell us the main impacts of the upcoming cold air mass?
- It is noteworthy that the time when cold air affects will combine with a wind convergence zone operating at an altitude of 1500 - 5000m. Therefore, from the evening of April 22nd to the night of April 23rd, the Northern region will have rain, moderate rain and scattered thunderstorms with rainfall from 20 - 40mm/24h, locally heavy to very heavy rain over 100mm/24h.
From April 23 to April 24, the North Central region will have rain, moderate rain and scattered thunderstorms with rainfall of 20-40mm/24h, locally heavy to very heavy rain over 100mm/24h.
From the evening of April 23rd to April 25th, the Central Central region will have scattered showers and thunderstorms with rainfall of 10 - 30mm/24h, locally heavy rain over 70mm/24h. Rain will concentrate in the late afternoon and night.
Under the impact of cold air, tomorrow the temperature in the north will decrease from 5 - 7 degrees Celsius to 26 - 28 degrees Celsius, the weather will turn cool. The lowest temperature at night and in the morning in mountainous areas decreases to 19 - 21 degrees Celsius, in the midland and delta areas the temperature decreases to 21 - 23 degrees Celsius. From April 23rd, the weather in the North and Thanh Hoa - Ha Tinh areas will turn cool.
In addition, due to the influence of cold air, in the Gulf of Tonkin, the wind will also change direction to the northeast from near dawn and tomorrow to strengthen to level 5, sometimes level 6, showers and thunderstorms. The risk of tornadoes and strong gusts of wind in the Gulf of Tonkin sea area affects the activities of ships and boats in this area.
In recent rains due to cold air, many extreme phenomena have appeared. What are the risks in the upcoming rain and which areas need special attention, sir?
- The dispute between the cold air mass and the hot, humid air mass existing in the North and central provinces will create a strong convection current.
The risk of thunderstorms, cyclones, hail and gusts of wind will appear from the afternoon and evening of April 22 and maintain this risk until April 24.
Among them, high-risk areas for tornadoes, whirlwinds, hail and strong gusts of wind will be the midlands and northern mountainous areas, and the western mountainous areas of central provinces and cities from Thanh Hoa inwards to Hue city.
Sir, before the risk of dangerous phenomena appearing like this, what recommendations do you have for people?
- When there is a risk of thunderstorms, tornadoes, hail and strong gusts of wind, people need to closely monitor warning bulletins, and limit going out when the weather turns stormy.
If you are outdoors, you need to quickly find a safe shelter in a solid house, avoid standing under big trees, power poles, billboards or temporary structures.
When it rains heavily, you should stay indoors, close the doors tightly, and stay away from glass doors to limit breakage and injury.
For strong gusts of wind, it is necessary to reinforce the roof, reinforce items that are easily blown away by the wind, and not stay near areas at risk of collapse.
In addition, turn off electrical devices when there is lightning, limit the use of phones outdoors to reduce the risk of being struck by lightning.
Thank you very much, sir!
