The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has issued a weather trend forecast for December 2024.
Regarding temperature trends, the average temperature in the Northern and North Central regions is approximately the same as the average of many years, while other regions across the country are generally 0.5 - 1 degree Celsius higher than the average of many years in the same period.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Hoa - Deputy Head of Climate Forecast Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that during the forecast period, cold air tends to increase in frequency and intensity.
"Severe cold is likely to appear in the second half of December 2024," said Mr. Hoa.
Previously, in November 2024, there were 4 cold air waves on November 2, November 4, November 16-18, November 26-28.
Notably, the cold air on November 26-28, the lowest temperature of the day in the Northern region dropped, commonly from 15 - 18 degrees Celsius, especially in the high mountainous areas the temperature was below 14 degrees Celsius, some places below 10 degrees Celsius such as: Pha Din (Dien Bien) 9.7 degrees Celsius, Sapa (Lao Cai) 9 degrees Celsius, Dong Van (Ha Giang) 9.4 degrees Celsius, Tam Dao (Vinh Phuc) 9.8 degrees Celsius, Mau Son (Lang Son) 7.2 degrees Celsius...
Total rainfall in the North, North Central and Central Highlands is generally 5 - 10mm lower than the average of many years, and some areas in the Northwest may be lower. The area from Quang Binh to Khanh Hoa and the north of Ninh Thuan has total rainfall 50 - 100mm higher than the average of many years. Other areas are generally 10 - 20mm higher than the average of many years in the same period.
According to Mr. Hoa, in December, the Central Central and South Central regions will continue to experience widespread moderate to heavy rains. In addition, there is still the possibility of dangerous weather phenomena such as tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind across the country.
Regarding dangerous weather phenomena at sea, the meteorological agency forecasts that in December 2024, storm/tropical depression activity in the East Sea is likely to be at a level approximately equal to the average of many years.
"According to average data over many years, in December, there is 1 storm/tropical depression in the East Sea, 0.2 storms make landfall" - Mr. Hoa provided information.
Previously, in November 2024, there were 3 storms in the East Sea.
The meteorological agency also noted that in the last month of the year, dangerous weather phenomena at sea are likely to cause strong winds and large waves, affecting the activities of ships. On land, cold air, heavy rain, strong thunderstorms accompanied by whirlwinds, lightning, hail and gusts of wind can greatly affect production and people's activities.
