The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has issued a weather trend forecast for the next month (from January 21 to February 20).
Regarding temperature trends, the average temperature in the area from Nghe An to Phu Yen is generally 0.5 - 1 degree Celsius lower than the average of many years; the remaining areas are generally close to the average of many years in the same period, with some places in the South being 0.5 - 1 degree Celsius higher.
During the period from January 21 to February 20, 2025, cold air tends to be more active than the average of many years in the same period, causing many days of severe cold.
Cold air is likely to cause strong winds and large waves, affecting the activities of ships. On land, severe cold in the northern provinces is likely to be accompanied by frost and ice, which will greatly affect livestock, crops and people's health, especially in the northern mountainous areas.
Previously, during the period from December 21, 2024 to January 20, 2025, there were 3 cold spells on December 27, 2024, January 9, 2025 and January 14, 2025. Notably, the cold spell on January 9, 2025 caused widespread severe cold in the North and North Central regions on January 12-13, 2025.
The lowest temperature in this cold air mass in the North and North Central regions is generally below 10 degrees Celsius, in some mountainous areas below 5 degrees Celsius such as: Bac Ha (Lao Cai) 1.4 degrees Celsius, Dong Van (Ha Giang) 0.8 degrees Celsius, Dinh Lap (Lang Son) 0.3 degrees Celsius and Trung Khanh (Cao Bang) 0.9 degrees Celsius.
Total rainfall in the Northern and Central regions is generally 10 - 20mm lower than the average of many years; in the Central Highlands and Southern regions, it is generally approximately the same as the average of many years in the same period.
During the forecast period, the Central region is likely to experience some days of scattered showers and thunderstorms in some places.
