According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, currently, the Northern region, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Central Highlands and Southern regions have localized showers and thunderstorms.
Forecast for the afternoon and night of August 14, the Northern region and Thanh Hoa, Central Highlands and Southern region will have scattered showers and thunderstorms with rainfall of 10 - 30mm, locally heavy rain over 70mm.
In thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind. Disaster risk level due to tornadoes, lightning, hail is level 1.
Rainstorms accompanied by tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind can affect agricultural production, causing trees to fall, damage to houses, traffic works, and infrastructure. Localized heavy rains are likely to cause flash floods on small rivers and streams, landslides on slopes, and flooding in low-lying areas.
Regarding the rainfall trend in the next month, the total rainfall in the Northern region, provinces from Thanh Hoa to Hue and the Central Highlands region is 5 - 25% higher than the multi-year average of the same period. In which, the area from Thanh Hoa to Hue city is 20 - 40% higher than the multi-year average. The remaining areas have commonly lower total rainfall than the multi-year average by 10 - 30%, in some places lower.
