According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from around December 12 to 13, a strong cold air mass may affect the weather in the North and Central regions.
The Northern region from the night of December 11 to 12 will have scattered rain and showers; around the night of December 12 to 13, there is a possibility of rain, moderate rain and scattered thunderstorms, locally heavy rain. From around December 13, the North will be cold, mountainous and midland areas are likely to experience severe cold, some places are severely cold.

Currently, the ocean atmosphere is in a La Nina state. It is forecasted that in the next 3 months, the La Nina state is likely to continue to exist with a probability of 50 - 60%, while the probability of being neutral is from 40 - 50%.
La Nina is a concept used to refer to the phenomenon of abnormal cold front of the surface water layer in the sea east of the equator of the Pacific Ocean. La Nina is also known as the "cold storm" that clearly dominates winter weather in many areas, including Vietnam.
According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Hoa - Deputy Head of Climate Forecasting Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, under the impact of La Nina, it is forecasted that this winter will be colder than the winter of 2024.
"The first widespread cold spell of this winter is likely to appear around the second half of December - that is, at a level close to the average of many years. The cold spells will be concentrated from the second half of December 2025 to around January and February 2026" - Mr. Hoa said.
The Deputy Head of the Climate Forecast Department also warned against excluding the possibility of cold spells with low temperatures, especially in the northern mountainous areas, where frost and ice may appear.
The meteorological agency said that cold air not only causes cooling waves in the North but is also a typical rainfall situation in the Central region.
Data analyzed by the meteorological agency also shows that in December 2025, the total rainfall in the Northern regions, Thanh Hoa and northern Nghe An will generally be from 10 - 25mm, 10 - 20mm lower than the average of many years.
The area from southern Nghe An to northern Quang Tri is generally 30-80mm, 30 - 50mm lower than the average of many years. The provinces/cities from southern Quang Tri to Da Nang city, coastal provinces from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak and northern Khanh Hoa will have rain from 250 - 450mm, some places over 550mm (commonly 15 - 40mm higher than the average of many years in the same period).
The Central Highlands region has a total rainfall of 30 - 60mm, in the north, some places are lower, generally 5 - 15mm higher than the average of many years in the same period. The common Southern provinces have total rainfall from 40 - 80mm, commonly approximately the same as the average of many years in the same period.
According to Mr. Hoa, in the provinces/cities from Quang Tri to Da Nang, the east of Quang Ngai province to Dak Lak and Khanh Hoa, there is a possibility of widespread heavy rains (concentrated in the first half of December).
