Hot weather has begun in areas across the country. While the North and Central regions have only experienced localized heat, the South and Central Highlands have recorded widespread heat. Dr. Hoang Phuc Lam - Deputy Director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting provided information on the forecast of hot weather trends this year.

Sir, 2024 has recorded record heat. According to statistics, in which months will there be temperature changes, sir?
- In Vietnam, the temperature from January to December 2024 is generally 0.5 degrees Celsius to 1.5 degrees Celsius higher than the average. In particular, the temperature in April 2024 is very high, surpassing the average of up to 4 degrees Celsius in the northern regions.
The national average temperature in 2024 was 24.87 degrees Celsius, higher than the average of many years (1991-2020 period) of 1.10 degrees Celsius. With this average temperature, the wrong standard of Vietnam's temperature in 2024 is 0.38 degrees Celsius and 2024 with the highest annual average annual temperature in the monitoring data chain.
The previous highest value was 2019 - 24.8 degrees Celsius, 0.98 degrees Celsius higher than the average of many years; and in 2023 was 24.6 degrees Celsius, 0.86 degrees Celsius higher than the average of many years.
So which months are predicted to be the peak of hot weather in the summer of 2025, sir?
- The phenomenon of hot weather is likely to appear equivalent to the average for many years. Hot sun began to appear in the South and Central Highlands. After that, the hot weather gradually expanded to the Northwestern region of the North, the mountains in the Northwest Central region around April and the Northeast, the coastal area of Central Vietnam from around May onwards.
The peak of hot weather in the Northern region will fall in May, June and the peak of hot weather in the Central region will fall around July and August 2025.
It is likely that the heat in 2025 will not be as severe and last as in 2024.
Sir, how is the forecast for drought and saline intrusion this year?
- With droughts and saline intrusion, the peak will fall in the first months of the year. During the dry season in early 2025, saline intrusion in the Mekong Delta will be higher than the average of many years.
From February to April 2025, saline intrusion will increase, affecting people's lives and agriculture in localities. However, salinity intrusion is not as serious as in the dry season of 2015 - 2016 and 2019 - 2020.
Then the rainy season will start in the Southern region around May 2025, helping to gradually reduce the drought and salinity intrusion in the area.
Sincerely thank you!
