On December 10, Binh Thuan Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited (Lam Dong province) informed Tuy Phong and Lien Huong communes about the operation of regulating water through the Long Song spillway.
Accordingly, from the morning of the same day, the water level of Long Song Lake was at elevation of +75.35m, 1.6m lower than the normal rising water level, the current flood prevention capacity was 3.4 million m3, accounting for 246% of the designed flood prevention capacity.
Upstream of Long Song Lake, there will start to be rain, the authorities will discharge floodwater at 5:00 p.m. the same day with a flow rate of 20m3/s to 100m3/s depending on the amount of water flowing into the lake.
Binh Thuan Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited requested relevant communes to promptly notify people in the downstream and river mouth areas so that people can grasp the situation. At the same time, it is recommended that localities take precautions and prepare response plans in case of floods.
Previously, on the night of December 3 and early morning of December 4, Long Song Lake released floodwaters with a flow of nearly 1,200m3/s. This is one of the factors that cause widespread flooding in the downstream area of Lien Huong commune.
About 30 fishing boats of fishermen anchored at the river mouth have broken anchors, drifted or been sunk by waves.
