According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, this morning (December 8), cold air has affected the Northern, North Central and most of the Central Central regions.
The Gulf of Tonkin has strong northeast winds of level 6, sometimes level 7, gusting to level 8; Ly Son island district has strong winds of level 6, Phu Quy has gusts of level 7.
During the day and night of December 8, cold air continues to affect other places in the Central Central region and some places in the South Central region. Northeast wind inland is strong at level 3, coastal areas at level 4 - 5.
The Northern region is cold, with some mountainous areas experiencing severe cold. The lowest temperature is generally 14 - 17 degrees Celsius, in mountainous areas 11 - 13 degrees Celsius, and in high mountainous areas, some places are below 10 degrees Celsius. The average temperature is around 17 - 19 degrees Celsius, in mountainous areas 14 - 16 degrees Celsius, and some places are below 13 degrees Celsius.
The North Central region is cold; the lowest temperature in this cold air mass is commonly from 15 - 18 degrees Celsius; the average temperature is about 19 - 21 degrees Celsius.
Hanoi area is cold. The lowest temperature in this cold air mass is commonly 14 - 17 degrees Celsius.
Due to the influence of cold air, the area from Ha Tinh to Phu Yen will have rain, showers, locally heavy rain and thunderstorms. Thunderstorms may cause tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind.
Localized heavy rains can cause flooding in low-lying areas; flash floods in small rivers and streams, and landslides on steep slopes.
On the day and night of December 9, the Northern region will be cold. The lowest temperature is generally from 15 - 18 degrees Celsius, in mountainous areas 13 - 15 degrees Celsius, in high mountainous areas some places below 11 degrees Celsius. The average temperature is about 18 - 20 degrees Celsius, in mountainous areas 16 - 18 degrees Celsius, in some places below 14 degrees Celsius.
