On December 11, ChatGPT experienced a global outage, starting at midnight on December 11. This AI chatbot outage occurred for both free ChatGPT users and the paid professional version ChatGPT Plus.
According to the report, at the time of the incident, users were unable to access the ChatGPT website. The website then went down completely with the message: "ChatGPT is currently unavailable. Status: Known - We have identified the issue and are working to fix it."
The issue wasn't just with ChatGPT, but Sora, another OpenAI service that allows generating videos from descriptive text, was also affected and inaccessible.
According to OpenAI, they have identified the problem and fixed it. The problem originated from OpenAI's application programming interfaces (APIs).
"We received a bug report about the API. We have identified the issue and are deploying a fix as quickly as possible to restore the service to normal. We apologize for this downtime," OpenAI representative shared on social media.
During the incident, many users were affected in their lives and work as the development of AI technology in general and ChatGPT in particular pushed this chatbot into an irreplaceable position in many people's work.
At the time of writing, the issue with ChatGPT has been resolved and users can access the site and use it normally.
This is not the first time ChatGPT has encountered a serious problem on a global scale. In early June, ChatGPT also crashed globally, making it inaccessible to users. This problem lasted for more than 3 days before being resolved.
