This afternoon, April 15, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that currently, a weak cold air mass continues to move southward, compressing a low pressure trough with its axis at about 24 - 26 degrees north latitude.
Forecast from the night of April 16 to April 17, due to the influence of cold air compressing low pressure troughs combined with wind convergence above 1500m, in the Northern region (except Lai Chau, Dien Bien) and Thanh Hoa there will be rain, moderate rain and scattered thunderstorms with rainfall from 20 - 40mm, locally very heavy rain over 100mm. From April 17, the North will turn cool.
In addition, in the late afternoon and evening of April 15, the Central Highlands region will have scattered showers and thunderstorms with rainfall from 10 - 20mm, locally heavy rain over 50mm.
The meteorological agency warns that thunderstorms are likely to occur with tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind.
Thunderstorms accompanied by tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind can affect agricultural production, causing trees to fall, damage to houses, traffic works, and infrastructure. Localized heavy rains are likely to cause flash floods on small rivers and streams, landslides on slopes, and flooding in low-lying areas. Disaster risk level warning due to tornadoes, lightning, and hail is level 1.
The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting recommends that when thunderstorms occur, people should limit going out if not really necessary to avoid the risk of lightning strikes, fallen trees, falling billboards and strong gusts of wind. If moving on the street, it is necessary to quickly find a safe shelter, avoid standing under large trees, power poles or empty areas.
